   Generally speaking, as so many feel the need to criticize everything all the time, my raison d'être is to share positive feedback whenever possible. Unfortunately, I simply can’t do so for Eight4Nine. This was truly the worst meal I’ve ever experienced and dining out is one of my favorite things to do. To add insult to injury, it was my birthday as well as that of two of my dining companions so it was extra disappointing. The ambiance was not my taste but it was of a style. I found the odd black tarps (or whatever they were) on the ceiling particularly strange. Why not just do a tasteful dropped ceiling or paint it? The heavy chairs on the raw concrete floor made an awful sound and noise travels much too easily in the space. Plus, we could hear everyone’s conversations at volume. The restaurant is quite loud – not in a hip cool way. Cocktails: four of the five of us ordered cocktails (one beer) only one cocktail was drinkable. One guest has worked in catering and at restaurants for decades and eventually collaborated with the bartender to try produce balanced palatable drinks. We had one drink each – a couple of us didn’t finish. Food: the soups seemed fine as was the tuna poke (which would benefit from seasoning but the tuna was fresh). One duck entree was overcooked within an inch of its life. The other was medium well at best. The duck sides were delicious, especially the spinach. The lobster bucatini was fine but nothing special (the pasta was absolutely overcooked) and the tomahawk pork chop looked quite good. The bolognese was truly repulsive. The sauce had a really really odd awful burnt flavor, of course, the pasta was overcooked. The desserts were okay. Mocha cake, meh, s’mores fine but nothing special or memorable, and the flourless mouse cake was quite tasty. Service: our waiter tried hard and seemed embarrassed. He took a few things off the bill. We never saw a manager or anyone. The poor waiter had to deal with so much wrong.

   Delicious food, amazing service, incredible ambiance. Wish we had more time in PS to try it again. Sat inside, but outdoor seating and bar looks fun as well.

   Really enjoyed our first time at 849. Food was good and fun ambience. If there was a criticism it was very loud and hard to talk to others at the table. All in all, we’ll be back.

   Lovely lunch, wish we’d been given the option to sit inside as it was quite chilly but I didn’t realize there was a back dining room. Great service and delicious food.

   Our server David was great. Very attentive, friendly and professional. The food had an off night, because usually, very good. The octopus was rubbery and very tough. The green salad was underdressed and platted sloppily. We really enjoy this restaurant, so we will be back.
