About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Great for brunch
  • Innovative
People come from near and far to eat, drink and bliss out at Scottish Thistle Award winning Drift, a unique coffee house with breathtaking views over unspoilt miles of Firth of Forth coast and the Bass Rock. Drift is perfect for walkers, cyclists, day trippers and tourists (we’re half a mile away from Tantallon Castle) and very popular with locals too. Everything is freshly made, and, as a farm diversification business born out of a passion for food and drink, we love strengthening the connections between the land, sea and the table.

The food and location are amazing, while the price is on the higher scale it’s worth it for the experience.

Booked a table for 6 to celebrate our Ruby anniversary with family members. Glad we booked as it was busy on arrival. Warm friendly welcome from staff, table ready very quickly, ordered food and drinks and enjoyed the view. Yes the tables close together but no feeling of closeness to other diners. The food was superb, very generous fillings and service excellent. To anyone reading this review, if you've not been before then I would book a table and go. We will definitely be going again. Thank you to all for a great lunchtime experience.

Food was average, servers were fine but was misinformed about how to pay the bill so sat waiting for longer than would have liked. Worth it for the views but you can get those without visiting this place. 5/10

We had a table booked for 10am and the booking confirmation states we would have the table for 90 minutes. It hit 11am and we were told we would have to move table as another party, who apparently had booked the same table, had arrived. Our cakes, which we had ordered just 5 minutes before and were in the middle of eating still, were taken and moved to another table away from the direct sea view, which was the table I booked! When I went to speak to someone about what had happened, I was met with a bit of passiveness and just told “yeah the system has been having issues the last few days and booking only hour slots so another booking is here so we had to move you”. We were mid eating! And moved to accommodate another booking! Not at any point were we apologised to, made to feel like they were genuinely sorry or being understood as to why we were upset. The girl just stared at me blankly as if I was unnecessarily upset about the disruption to my friends birthday breakfast. When I mentioned we had not been told it was only an hours booking, or even told we only had 5 minutes left on the table at the time of ordering the cakes, which we ordered at 10:55am!!, I was basically just shrugged off and said “yeah that was a mistake”. When I went to pay, the same girl was very blunt and just stated the total amount and said “tap here” - no acknowledgement or apology then either. Very cold service. The manager has since called and left a voicemail to apologise and say they have “rectified the issue” - but the issue for my party was not their booking system, our issue was that we were moved, mid way through eating, to accommodate another guest when the error is purely their fault and we were shifted which such disregard. The sourdough toast was also brick hard and not able to be cut through at all - I ended up leaving half the bread. Real shame as the location and venue are beautiful but it’s left a sour note to what was supposed to be a beautiful breakfast celebration.
