Created by Rob Arellano, the concept draws inspiration from his Mexican heritage, offering a unique and nostalgic dining experience. You'll witness skilled chefs prepare authentic Mexican dishes at your table in a lively setting, immersing you in the ambiance of a bustling Mexican town. Led by Chef Jose Angulo, Descanso serves Central West Mexican street-inspired cuisine, featuring fresh bold flavors and seasonal ingredients. Came with my boyfriend for New Year’s Eve and had such a great time! 10/10 recommend and will absolutely be coming back!

Incredible NYE at Descanso. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome and, as we arrived early for our reservation, we sat at the bar for a pre dinner cocktail. We didn’t feel rushed to finish these drinks and it set a great tone for the rest of the evening. I’m very fussy with cocktails and pleased to say the 2 types of margaritas I tried were incredible! Highly recommend the spicy one! We ordered chips and guacamole and fish tacos appetizers. For entrees, we went for the steak quesadillas, short rib estofado and steak alambra. Desserts (yes, we went the full 3 courses!) we chose the cheesecake and mango crème brulee (highly recommend!). Everything we ordered was delicious! The building itself is stunning. Such beautiful interiors and a truly great addition to the area. We’ll definitely be back (a lot!) and can’t wait to try the Plancha grill!

This is a lovely big space with lots of potential. The food doesnt quite meet that potential. A carne asada main course was a little tough and underseasoned. Parking was $5 even with validation.

Overall it’s a nice restaurant with good service. However the food is ok and the prices are outrageous. I paid $15 for a single taco. $15 for guacamole. For a similar price point I would rather go to Javier’s. One thing that I really did not like was being charged for chips and salsa. It was only $5 but that is a stable free item if any Mexican restaurant.

The Carnitas entree comes with nothing more than the pork. It’s nice to have rice and beans with Mexican meals. The Lobster tacos were over cooked and the lobster was tough. The renovated restaurant was very lovely. Too bad the food does not hold up.

I enjoyed the food but staff is new and more about the place in Mexico then here in Los Angeles but we were all disappointed that they gutted the beautiful space where we all spent time in frequently

Descanso was a delight. We opted for regular dining (versus la plancha) and the food was fresh, hot and delicious. It arrived family style, which is what we requested. The plates were much more interesting beyond the usual taquerita offerings. We split two apps, a carnitas entree and a Coco tres leche cake that was amazing! Our waiter (whose name escapes me, but he wore glasses) was attentive, friendly and informative and was right on the ball while we were there. We had told him that we were off to the El Rey to see a show after dinner, and he made sure that we were ready to go in plenty of time without rushing us. Would definitely dine with them again!

I’ve been by here twice - haven’t friend the plancha experience but the happy hour and regular menus are amazing! Chips and salsa are divine freshly made - the tacos are great we had chicken - al pastor and steak they were all delish - they make fresh blue corn tortillas and corn tortillas We tried margaritas and espresso martini’s they were fabulous- the bartender is brilliant The flan and panne cotta were off the charts - I will be back to try more!

The restaurant has a modern and stylish ambiance that immediately catches your eye, with sleek decor and a clean, polished environment. The servers were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcomed from the moment we walked through the door. This is a new restaurant, within it's first week of opening. We did the Plancha dinner, which is basically a Mexican take on Tepanyaki. The cook was still figuring out how to use the cooktop, and all the food had to be re-applied to the grill after serving (fish was raw inside, Asada was burned on the outside but raw on the inside). This was more a function of the thickness of the protein (substantial) vs an extremely hot cooktop - difficult to manage. Hopefully they figure it out. Meal was expensive - 3 people was over $350 with cocktails. As it stands, will not go back.
