I made a reservation for a party of six through OpenTable a few days prior for an important business dinner. I booked 5:15.The day of I received a text message asking me to confirm my reservation for “tomorrow”. I replied no, because my reservation was for “today,” and it was canceled. I checked my OpenTable history and I had booked for the correct day, but made another reservation and had no issues. I checked in early and the hostess finally found my reservation. A couple of my guests waited at the bar for the full party to arrive. The hostess walked up to me and told me that I had no reservations and we would not be able to be seated. Mind you, this is in front of my guests. I explained to her what had happened. Showed her my canceled reservation, their incorrect text, and my second reservation. She walked away and said she’ll see what she could do. No apology. We were seated. If I was not hosting guests I would have immediately left. Our server was excellent as was the food. Unfortunately I will never set foot here again based on how I was treated and embarrassed in front of my guests. A high end establishment like this should understand how important all aspects of a dining experience are - that is part of the premium we pay.

We had a wonderful experience at this historic restaurant. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and the staff made the celebration wonderful! All the food was fabulous. The service was phenomenal as well. Of course we had to try the ribeye steak because Delmonico's invented it (in 1850) and we also had to try the baked Alaska because Delmonico's invented that as well (in the early 1900's). We also tried the lobster Newberg (which I think they also invented). All of these were worth the try. The Brussel sprouts were awesome with a wonderful wasabi sauce, the french fries were perfect with a wonderful dipping sauce and the pureed potatoes were wonderful as well. Let's just say I would like the recipes for all their sauces (but I didn't buy the cookbook they were selling--maybe those recipes were in there?). The staff made our friend's birthday celebration memorable--we want to thank them for that! The next time we fly into New York we'll make it a point to eat at Delmonico's again. Make sure you have reservations if you want to go.

The atmosphere was very pleasant, the noise level was also fine for quiet conversation. The service was excellent. The food, with the exception of my husband’s ribeye steak and the french fries, was really disappointing and expensive. Very poor value for money. I had about the most expensive Manhattan I’ve ever had in my life, which was fine, just too expensive. The Caesar salad was strange, overloaded with the flavor of anchovies in the dressing and also expensive. My blackened cod had an off taste to it. I’m sure the fish was fine. It was the sauce that just didn’t taste good and it was presented with a wilted lettuce or some other leaf, which was downright appealing. I couldn’t eat it and asked by the staff if it was OK, I answered that I thought it was OK. I just didn’t like the taste at all. I appreciate that they took this dish off the bill. The baked Alaska was good but nothing outrageous. We had been planning this meal for a couple of months and actually had to reschedule a few times since it had to coincide with a trip to the city from our home in Maine. We were very disappointed and do not recommend this restaurant.

Very overpriced mediocre steakhouse. Highlight is the Caesar salad and bacon. The steak was just ok.

We were in a back dining room in the corner next the window with alley lights. Lovely room overall, but not quite the ambiance we were looking for our special occassion which is more suitable upstairs in the main room. Service was not comparable to what we have experienced before (we did bump into our prior server who remembered us which was nice)! Our waiter seemed somewhat inconvenienced by our son's food allergies; at times reluctant to ask the chef about nuts/sesame before we ordered/ate unless pressed. Again not our experience before. The food itself was very good. Highly recommend the porterhouse for two and the brussel sprouts. The cheesecake was perfect.
