   Great Easter Brunch. We were a little late making Easter Brunch reservations for our weekend trip to NOLA. So, on Saturday Couvant still had openings for Easter Sunday. In a casual but hip setting we had a delicious 3-course brunch for $62. Perfect amount of food. Every dish we tried was excellent. The service was friendly and efficient. We were very happy to spend the morning at Couvant and to see the cool Eliza Jane Hotel, a Hyatt property.

   We had an excellent time at Couvant! It was everything I was dreaming of for delicious French food including escargot, gougeres, coq au vin, and confit duck breast. Erika was an attentive and kind server. It fulfilled my French dreams on my visit to NOLA and I wish I could transplant it to my home town

   We had a wonderful first evening meeting up with dear friends. They’re first time in the Big Easy so this was a perfect start to their vacation. The food and service were excellent.

   It was one of the best meals that we’ve had in the city, and it was so the escargot was fabulous. The deviled eggs were even more extremely fabulous and coc vin was outstanding

   I've always loved Couvant, especially their steak frites and moules frites. Our guests had shrimp and grits, a French mushroom omelet, and the steak frites. The only one that was less than excellent was the moules frites. Don't get me wrong - the frites were perfect and perfectly delicious. The mussels were big and plump but......they are supposed to be steamed in their seafoody liquid (plenty of shallot, garlic, and white wine, so that was good) so they are sort of slurpy, plump, and hot. These were plump. The waiter warned me that the steaming bowl they came in "was too hot to touch". It was not. I think the issue here is that the mussels were steamed enough to open them, but then left covered (not tossed) in the bowl so that they ended up cooled before they came to the table. I think Couvant is delicious and is an underrated gem...so I will certainly go back. But I'll need to make sure the mussels are hot and slurpy.................and plump!

   We made reservations a few weeks earlier at the only time available. When we are the place was almost empty and stayed that way during the entire meal. I guess people knew about this place. Service was absolutely terrible. Had to ask for forks, plates, spoons, food was mediocre at best. Very disappointing. On the positive side The management listened to our concerns and comped the entire meal. Apparently they had 2 people call in sick .

    This is a five-star restaurant that just needs a little more attention to pacing the meal. All of our food was outstanding; we had steak tartare, coq au vin blanc, chick-pea fries and a vegetable side. I won't belabor each dish here, just say that they were all excellent, well conceived and flawlessly executed. The wine glass list was well curated and fairly priced. We had a malvasia from Friuli and a Sancerre, each excellent examples of its genre. The place was elegant and quiet, even as it began to fill up at around 7:30. Our ony gripe was pacing. We split an appetizer and ordered another app and a side to come with an entree. We do this wherever we eat. Our waiter made a point of asking us to clarify the sequence, but the dishes didn't come in the order that we wanted. It didn't detract much from the experience of this fine meal, but they should be able to figure this out. If you sequence your meal more conventionally, I'd encourage you to eat here!
