Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Accursio Lota

From the OpenTable editors: At this colorful Italian restaurant, even the light fixtures are styled like pasta shapes. That delicious backdrop sets the stage for chef Accursio Lota’s soulful Sicilian dishes; many of his pastas are based on a special mix of flours made with ancient grains from Italy, including spaghettoni with seafood carbonara, plus thoughtful gluten-free and vegan options.

We enjoyed our meals at Cori Pastificio however I cannot give them a 5 star for a few reasons. Firstly, the ambiance needs a little help. It's a bit run down and the chairs are very uncomfortable. I wish they would put a bit of effort into the style to elevate the experience. For dinner we shared a simple Insalata which had a nice mixture of greens, but needed a bit more dressing. There is nothing like a properly dressed salad, and this was not that. I wish we had tried the Arancini but we were having pasta for dinner and didn't want to fill up. We should have because the pasta servings are small. I had the Agnolotti stuffed with short ribs and sage, which were tasty. The pasta could have been thinner around the stuffing to make it lighter and more like a pillow, but the taste was very nice and I enjoyed it. The sauce was more like a beef gravy which was interesting to be sure. My husband had the Pappardelle with wild boar. This is a go to dish for him and he enjoyed it. It has a heavy juniper berry taste which I didn't care for and they sprinkle the dish with almonds and I don't get that at all. Too heavy of a crunch on a pasta dish and it does nothing for the flavors. We had the chocolate crème brulee for dessert and that was excellent! It was a pleasant dinner and at some point we will return and try some other dishes.

My husband and I were greeted by friendly staff and seated a few minutes earlier than our reservation time (while waiting for two more to arrive). We all enjoyed our dinner....from the rice balls and carpaccio appetizers to the four dinners and dessert . Our server in particular (I believe her name was Bridget...I'm not great with remembering names) was awesome (very friendly and attentive).

Wife and I enjoyed the Pre-Christmas traditional Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes last night. As always Food and wine at Cori was excellent. General Manager Federico kindly treated us to the creamy Tiramisu. One of San Diego’s best authentic Italian restaurants, with a chef from Siciiy

Great service, although disappointed we were not offered the roasted chestnuts as that was one of the main reasons for going this day. Ordered the $58 truffle pasta and was let down as the truffles were not "truffley" and had very little to no flavor. Big fan of the truffle but this plate fell way short, especially for the price. The braised cheek was wonderful, so was the wine selection.

This was my first visit to Cori and it exceeded all my expectations. The ambiance is absolutely incredible, the service was amazing and the food was top tier. Bridget was our server and she was so sweet, gave great recommendations and was so attentive. I would come back just to have her as our server! I loved that they replaced the silverware between courses; a small touch that goes a long way! The arancini was the best I’ve had in San Diego. The pasta was SO good and you can definitely tell it’s homemade and made with love. My only regret is waiting so long to come in. I can’t wait to come back!!

Parking is abysmal, meaning you are lucky to find a spot within 10 blocks. Tables along the wall are so close together you get to dine with strangers, whether you want to or not. The bar is beer and wine only. And for musical ambiance, heck, I like heavy metal as much as the next person, but with dinner? Really? The service was genuinely friendly, or as friendly as can be in a place where it's so loud it's difficult to hear or be heard. The food came out hot and was attractively presented, but was far from flavorful, even with the (supplemental) truffles which were utterly lacking in pungent, aromatic "truffleness." The $91 Antinori Reserva was potable, but far from outstanding. So, for $300 two of us were "fed and watered," but would I go back? No thanks.

Amazing, as usual. This was my 2nd speciality dinner at Cori Pastificio. Acursio and staff always excel at service, food, creativity. From the cocktail to the plates and the wine pairings--excellent, and we learned about the creativity of local chefs using local seafood and local people to present beautiful and delicious food.
