Really good food, buzzy nice ambience. Chicken wings and elote and dessert (rum cake?) especially good. Might want to sit away from the drafty passage to the outdoor patio.

This place is amazing. The drinks are exceptional and perfectly balanced. The food is a smorgasbord of elevated Carribean and Latin food, executed flawlessly. The soundtrack of old school hip hop kept the room buzzing with energy. Amazing restaurant, amazing space and an amazing night out.

Good vibes! Christian (bartender) was super fast and the drinks he made were all good. He has a great attitude and checked in to make sure we were okay! He made a suggestion to add fried chicken with hot honey to my oder of the pineapple beet salad and it was so good! The staff were friendly and treated us nice and we had a great time overall. an’t wait to visit again when the patio is finished!!! Thank you!

Food was okay; not spectacular but not terrible. Macaroni Pie seemed as though it sat for a while. Cornbread was okay. Friend had the Firecracker Shrimp; they said it was as if the shrimp were tossed in a sriracha-mayo sauce. Jerk Chicken was boneless which was nice, but had no depth in flavour. Pumpkin rice was more like ginger rice; the ginger was so strong it was inedible. Service folks were nice! Consistency of service and coverage was poor. At one point, multiple people checked up on us within the first 20 minutes. Then, it took 40 minutes after that for anyone to show interest in us. Overlooking the mediocre food, a group of 6 came in and hounded the bar near our table looking at and talking about us within earshot. They were waiting for us to clear our table so they could use our table to make a large table. None of the staff said anything or attended to them until were finished. If anything it was the suggestion from staff to use our table to make a larger seating area for the group. This experience was so off putting, we decided paid the bill and left. Never returning, such a disappointing experience.

If you’re in Toronto and looking for a restaurant that captures everything this city is about — culture, creativity, hustle, and heart — Conejo Negro is it. It was honestly hard to choose from their menu because everything sounded incredible, but we landed on the Caribbean-style braised beef, the fish of the day (a perfectly cooked Arctic char), the Brazilian cheese puffs, and the spicy pineapple margarita. Every bite was packed with bold, layered flavours, and you can tell this is a kitchen that cooks with soul. The braised beef over grits was rich, comforting, and beautifully balanced. The Arctic char was fresh, bright, and elevated by a bed of black bean and corn salsa. The cheese puffs? Addictive. And the spicy pineapple marg was the perfect mix of heat, sweetness, and citrus. What makes Conejo Negro even more special is the story behind it. Lamine, the owner, is the kind of person you want to root for. His journey from his days at The Emerson to opening this Black-owned restaurant alongside his wife (who’s the magic behind the food) is seriously inspiring. His passion for food and hospitality shines in every interaction — from the thoughtful service to the genuine care for each guest’s experience. The vibe in the restaurant is electric but comfortable. You’ll find diners of all ages and backgrounds — locals, tourists, families, first dates — all coming together over great food. The soundtrack of old school hip hop and R&B sets the tone just right — lively enough to bring up the energy but never overpowering conversation. Conejo Negro is a gem. A love letter to Toronto, proof of what’s possible when you have a dream, put in the work, and stay true to who you are. Can’t wait to come back.
