A bustling eatery in the Central Eastside industrial neighborhood serving Italian-inspired, local, organic, seasonal, sustainable fare. The large oak-burning oven is the cornerstone of the large open kitchen. Clarklewis has helped define Portland as a food mecca since 2004 as a founder of our local farm-to-table sensibility.

I’ve ridden my bike by clarklewis for years so I was interested in the restaurant when I made the reservation. The first impression is it’s pretty loud, but that’s OK. There were lots of people at the time we came in so service was catching up to us, which is absolutely fine. We ordered and what we got wasn’t that much for the money. My mom got a salmon that was undercooked in the middle. Not a lot, but for the price it shouldn’t happen. It was a thick cut, to be sure, but if cooking thoroughly can’t be figured out, then make the cut thinner. I had ravioli and while good, there just wasn’t the amount to match the price. My wife loved her pizza, so that was good. To top it off, never mentioned but in fine print at the bottom was the 10% service charge. Just add it into the bill, will you? Why do that? It just ticks everyone off. Overall, when you roll in price, quality, amount it’s OK but I’m not sure we’ll be back.

Excellent food as always - be prepared for some background noise, but nothing that prevents a good time.

Very disappointed. Two in our group ordered pizzas and the cheese was not even melted. The beet salad was weird - to look at and it was too salty. Was hoping this time our experience would be better.

The salads were great, both the sliced root vegetables and the radicchio salad. The papardelle with lamb ragu was stellar. The salmon was good, though we did not understand that “medium” cooked would dry it up so much. The desserts were ok. The place is noisy, with all hard surfaces, and we were unfortunate to have a very loud group close to us. The lighting was so dim, we needed our phones to read the menu. Still, overall, we will be back for the food.

The service was excellent. The chef prepared one of their menu items for me based on some dietary restrictions, and it was amazing. I would definitely go back and recommend Clarklewis to others.
