   This is one of our favourite restaurants for its relaxed charm and Scottish vibe. Exquisite food. Tasteful Christmas decor provided a softly lit atmosphere. It became busier throughout the course of our meal but noise levels were not intrusive. Courses were well timed, and meals arrived together. Our only criticism would be that despite being informed there were no further covers after ours, the table service felt a little “rushed”. Plates were placed abruptly; my starter landing half on and half off the table mat and no-one offered us any condiments or further drinks after our initial order. We came away with the impression they must have been understaffed on the evening but overall, a pleasant experience and we would absolutely go back. Bravo to the chef.

   I don't eat out very often. But the Clacken is very quickly becoming my goto place. The surroundings are pleasant and the staff attentive. The food is reasonably priced, especially when considering the quality and is cooked to the highest standard. I can't recommend the 'Clachen' highly enough. Well worth a visit...

   Lovely restaurant in Ballater with high quality food and great staff. The menu is all based on Scottish produce locally sourced and the providence is explained on the menu. Very reasonably priced and probably the only “evening restaurant” in Ballater. We always have dinner there when we’re in Ballater and never have been disappointed. We had the Cullen skink and haggis Bon bins for starters and the chicken supreme and ox cheek for mains - everything as usual was well presented and tasted great. No room for dessert…..as usual! Very well made cocktails 😜 At busy times they open the front area of the restaurant which is called “Angus & Ale”. It wasn’t clear when we booked through OpenTable we had been booked into here and it turned out we were the only booking in there. Luckily they had a staff were very accommodating and found us a table in the main restaurant area. It wasn’t their fault it just wasn’t clear on OpenTable.

   A beautiful restaurant situated in picturesque Ballater. The food was delicious, the staff all wonderful, and it made for a great meal out. I would certainly go back the next time I’m in Ballater!

   Lovely staff. Delicious food. I would have liked portion size to be a bit bigger. Had sirloin steak which was perfectly cooked rare as I like it. Peppercorn sauce was delicious. Underwhelmed by accompanying rocket salad. Would have liked more vegetables. Only broccoli was available to order extra. Would have liked more choice in side dishes or more veg on plate. Would definitely go back though. Love the decor, ambience and local staff.

    Sunday roast good been two Sunday’s but could do with more gravy. Service charge on bill would prefer to decide ourselves as service ok but not a friendly attitude as I don’t get a service charge at my work.
