Located in the heart of the the Most Beautiful Square in Texas, City Post Chophouse began its story as a post office in the 1930s, during the Great Depression and Prohibition. Nearly a century later, the beautifully renovated historic building now offers an elevated dining experience, live music and private events.

Executive Chef Adrian Corkill has curated a stand-out menu, featuring fine cuts and chops of beef, lamb, and pork, as well as fresh seafood and decadent side dishes served family style, along with unique handcrafted cocktails. Accommodations for vegetarian, pescatarian, and gluten-free diets are readily available. Our wine selection includes something for everyone, with a variety of by-the-glass options.

Reservations can be made for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch in our main dining room, where “Texas formal” attire is appropriate. Walk-ins are welcome in our oyster bar, where our full menu is available with a more relaxed dress code.

First, we are picky, but fair. We really wanted this to be 5 stars across and it has the potential, there are just a few things to address. The building and restaurant are very nice, but the main area for dining is quite loud, so for a romantic dinner you would want to request a table off the main dining area. The piano player was a nice touch and that music was a good volume. The cocktails we had were good and reasonably priced, and the wine list was also reasonably priced, but not extensive (about 8 wines per varietal). We ordered the bread which came with salted butter and bbq butter. The bread was hot and very good. We liked the salted butter, but the bbq butter was a bit bland (we assumed it was supposed to have a bit of smoke to it). The two different small salads were very fresh, tasty, dressed appropriately and a sizeable portion. We then wanted to order the bone-in cowboy cut ribeye, but they were out. For a steak house to be out of one of their menu staples is quite a faux pas. We got the 35-day aged ribeye instead and the interior was cooked to the appropriate temperature (med-rare), but it did have a bit too much char which gave a couple of bites a burned finish in the mouth. A few bites also had a lot of salt, but this is not uncommon in steakhouses. The twice baked potato was ok, but nothing special. The sticky toffee pudding was very good. The service throughout by Trinity and staff was attentive, but not intrusive and well done. We will certainly go back and try other items, as we think the has a lot of potential and is probably one of the best restaurants north of Austin.

Came for lunch today (Saturday) with my husband to celebrate my birthday and we had the most amazing time. I am now dreaming of the trout and the Brussels sprouts. The food was incredible, but the service from Luke is what really stood out. He was so kind and funny and we appreciated his recommendations! Thank you for a great birthday experience, Luke!

Wonderful dining experience! The food is fabulous. I had the City Post salad with a salmon addition and it was so yummy! My husband had the lobster roll and can’t stop drooling over it! For dessert we shared the incredibly scrumptious country white cake. Afterwards we had cocktails at the super-cool Brass Peacock speakeasy located in the basement: such a cool vibe! The staff at City Post is so kind and friendly - they work well together and exhibit a family-like ambiance; very warm, natural and welcoming. Highly recommend! We will definitely frequent this establishment.

My husband and I enjoyed a birthday lunch at City Post Chophouse. We had a reservation at 1:30pm but the restaurant wasn't crowded at this time on a Thursday (lunch hours are 11-2). I had the sausage salad - our waiter offered a half portion when I didn't want a large salad with my entree. It was excellent - a very different combination that worked well. I also had the baked salmon entree - the salmon was cooked perfectly, nice dill cream sauce and cooked spinach with garlic. It was all delicious. My husband had the burger and French onion soup, and he enjoyed every bite! We shared a vanilla cake with buttercream frosting as a birthday dessert. I indicated a birthday on the reservation, and the restaurant really made me feel special:) We will certainly be back!
