Focusing predominately on fresh local seafood with a French, Lowcountry flare, Charlie’s is the place for good food, good wine and unforgettable memories all enjoyed in a quaint French country atmosphere.

A Savannah native, Charlie Golson’s interest in the French language and culture took him to Paris. After a long stint in the fast paced hotel kitchens of Washington DC, he was ready to move back closer to home. It was at that time he was able to open up a one room French bistro. The restaurant has grown over the years, but the ‘Green Star’ remains steadfast in offering the finest ingredients the Low country has to offer with a menu that is hand written daily. Resort Casual.

Of course, major holidays are not the ideal test of a restaurant. We have enjoyed this place many times, but we’re disappointed on New Years Eve. Bouillabaisse was overcooked fish and cold broth. Halibut lackluster. Salads dull, without enough dressing. Service was great as always. In all, they did their best to accommodate a busy night.

Charlie’s never disappoints. Their New Year’s Eve menu was excellent. The escargot with gnocchi was a pleasant and delicious surprise. The restaurant was packed yet service was professional and available if you needed something. Michele, our server, was great responding to our menu questions, etc.

My wife and I went to Charlie’s for dinner on New Year’s Eve. The menu had a number of great dishes for appetizers and the main course. It was difficult for us to make a choice as the choices were very tempting. Our choices were excellent. The portions were just right. We shared a dessert that was also delicious. A great way to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

The fish selections we had were all excellent; cod, salmon, and monkfish. We enjoyed outstanding Sauvignon Blanc with dinner. And Michelle is just a very experienced professional!
