CHARCUT is a proud female majority-owned and operated destination restaurant and bar from Calgary’s CHAR Hospitality Group – founded by Carrie Jackson and acclaimed chefs Connie DeSousa and John Jackson. Our menu draws inspiration from Italian and Portuguese traditions, a nod to Connie’s heritage, while celebrating seasonal, artisanal, and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. From our handmade pastas and vegetable-forward sharing plates to our house-cured meats, butcher cuts, and rotisserie prime rib of Alberta beef, we take a back to basics, back to flavour approach by evolving simple ingredients.     Wanted to love it but it was honestly not that nice an experience. We tried the pork belly, the blistered tomatoes, the escargot and the prime rib. We would not recommend any of those dishes. Saturday evening so noise level was ridiculous and server was scarce. It was disappointing - perhaps going on a weekday would have been more pleasant, I don’t know.

    This restaurant was really great, it was a bit noisy but the food was delicious and portioned well. Our waiter was attentive but not annoying and there was a warm ambiance.

    Service and food was adequate, but nothing special. The entire evening was just about wrecked as we were ignored for several minutes waiting for a staff member to acknowledge our existence and to seat us for our reservation.

    The restaurant is lively with a good vibe. The menu is designed for sharing and has multiple options, including vegetarian. The scallop crudo is a winner. The zucchini and ricotta salad with pistachio was very good but slicing the zucchini thinner would improve the dishes edibilaty. Ordered the prime rib. Potatoes are great as are the jus and horseradish cream. The meat was chewy and obviously rewarmed from a cooked and chilled state. Perhaps just do a ribeye steak with a proviso that it needs to be ordered for two or more.

    Service was excellent right from the time we walked in the door. The menu is quite varied but I think it could use perhaps one or two more meatless dishes. One of us enjoyed our meal (Whipped Cheese Rotolo) and the other (prime rib) was disappointed and felt the meat lacked flavour and was quite dry even though it was ordered and arrived medium rare. The caesar salad starter was excellent but the dessert, Chocolate Salted Caramel Crunch, seemed to lack much flavour and was very small despite its hefty price tag of$17.00. We were there on half price bottles of wine and had an excellent bottle of wine at a extremely reasonable price. We will definitely go back though cause maybe we just ordered the wrong things so will try something different the next time. The pizza looked amazing and with gluten free and celiac friendly options available we will definitely try them.

    I changed my reservation to a later time at the last minute, and they accommodated me. Great food, great appetizers. Close to home where I can walk to.

    Not enough room trying to fit to many people. Very noise hard to talk. Pricey for what you get. Food was good though.
