Went here for Valentine’s Day and had an amazing experience. The servers were very helpful and so happy to explain things and the plates. Our server particular was a joy. The food was great, drinks were tasty, and parking was easy! This was my first time and I will 100% coming back.

Cocktail sauce had a weird taste. They ran out of the beet salad. Then we waited 45 minutes for our main courses - both of which were almost inedible. The NY strip steak was underdone and had so much fat it looked like pork belly. The Dover sole tasted too smokey and the lemon butter sauce was tasteless. The bread, fries and baked potato were good.

We are so sorry to hear that this was your experience, Linda. This is not our standard and we always want people to enjoy not only their meal, but their entire dining experience. I also left you a voicemail, but if you are so inclined, please call us here at the restaurant so that we may make it right.

Visited LA from Palm Springs for a friend's BD and discovered Charcoal Sunset in LA Magazine. It did not disappoint. The guest of honor remarked that his steak was "as good as it gets". Drinks and food were all excellent...the baked Yukon potato was positively decadent. They encourage family style dining, with all the apps, salads and sides being sharing size. The overall cost was very reasonable given the food and environment. I feel that you can't dine out for even an average meal for under $100pp w/drinks. We paid $153/person for a top level dining experience, including 1 round of drinks, 3 apps (bread is an app...but worth it), 2 sides, 3 entrées and 1 desert. As indicated in the ratings, the restaurant is pretty loud...but I appreciate that that is a personal preference. Look forward to our next trip to LA and trying it again (or one of his many sister restaurants).

Second time dining here. Service was great. Has the duck and fabulous flavor like the first time. but we also ordered the oro king salmon. Never had a piece of salmon that I didn't like, even when cooked too much. This salmon was thin, fatty and tasted fishy. A disappointment, especially for oro king salmon.

The food is second to none. AMAZING. Give the food 4.8 of 5 Stars and worthy of a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Period. Food is on par with A.O.C. yet consistent to the chefs speciality. It’s worthy of a James Beard award for best new Chef…. But not Restaurant. Service was welcoming yet obviously undertrained and “very green” as to fine dining. It was like an excited 16yr old serving us food…. All night long. I’d still give service a solid 3.4 out of 5 stars. 2 star deduction for staff not knowing what they are serving, and lack of communication between staff. Could be 4 stars within 3 months with the right floor management. Bar/Cocktails are average. 3.1 out of 5. Nothing surprising and issues with some basic drinks lacking consitency. Pricing of Alcolal lacks basic consistency of GOG vs selling price. Completely random. Basically, drink prices from mid range need to be dropped 25%. Paying 40% of the liquor bottle price is a fast way to get your educated customers to not come back. The obvious labor issue of having lack of tenured bartenders is a tough issue considering # covers; “maybe” a 1.4% turn on total occupancy won't cut… needs to do 250+ covers to attract the good bar staff. I would guess the restaurant averages 70-100 covers daily across a 7 day average. Manageble…. Give it 18 months. I’ll go back… but give it 6mo to see if they figure their operations out.

My husband really wanted to try Charcoal for his birthday. Finding the right parking lot & the actual entrance was not intuitive. pay special attention to this if you go. we ended up at the wrong lot & walked half a block. Not the end of the world, but not ideal either. we were greeted with kindness & professionalism. Every staff member we interacted with was outstanding. Our waitress was very helpful, explaining the menu & making great suggestions. She recommended we try some bread & the cabbage starter which was melt in your mouth scrumptious giving us a great first impression. Even though we deliberately booked an early 6:30 table & the place was empty, the food took a long time so we were glad to have the starter to nibble on. After that the lobster tail came which I thought was off. I decided not complain on my husbands birthday thinking it was a small issue. We ordered the porterhouse, a baked potato & the cauliflower to share after that. We both thought the steak was terrible primarily because it was aged. If you like aged meat you might love it. I personally couldn't eat more than a small bite. The inside of the baked potato was whipped up with a mountain of butter & cheese. So much butter that you could barely taste the potato. We were surprised by this cause most places ask you or serve things on the side. if it had just been on top we could have scraped it off. But this butter was thoroughly mixed into the potato. Knowing this ahead of time would have helped us order differently. The cauliflower choice was our one try something new risk. Neither of us could stand the unusual rich coconut sauce flavor profile. Although the service was exceptional, we'll never be back. Nothing was wrong, the food was simply not to our taste. My intention isn't to say that the place was bad. I truly hope this helps people who love aged beef navigate the menu better.

Greg our server was fantastic. He greeted us at the host stand, and led us to our table. It’s not easy being both the host and the server and we watched him do this throughout the night with kindness and timeliness. He was attentive to our requests and ensured every aspect of service was maintained with courtesy. The food runner and busser were polite as well and on top of things. The food was spot on. It was a pleasure to have Greg as our server and we greatly enjoyed our food.

Best smoked wings! The dry aged ribeye was good, not very good or great (and it was the reason I went); hence the 4 stars for food.
