    MICHELIN 1 Star

    2023

From the OpenTable editors: This MICHELIN-starred stunner from chef Carlos Delgado is an ode to his native Peru. In the colorful, 26-seat spot with an iced fish counter display and open kithen, Delgo prepares dishes that star rare catches from Japan and beyond, plus South American-forward plates that could include bomba rice with uni and caviar. Toast with a glass of pisco from the restaurant's 100-plus bottle collection.

My fiancé and I had an amazing experience dining here. The food was outstanding, but so was everything else. The attention to detail was impressive. As soon as we stepped through the door, we were given a short tour of the restaurant which made us feel welcome and at home. This is not a pretentious place even though the food is world-class. We hope to come back again sometime!

One of those places that lives up to the hype and then some. Everyone there makes the experience more than worth the investment. The food is both thoughtful and creative and just beyond delicious. The staff absolutely make the evening. They are attentive and not pretentious, they truly turn the evening into an event and not just a meal. Wonderful head to toe.

This was a memorable evening. The food was unforgettable - in terms of how it was presented on the plate, introduced to our table and how every bite delighted. The service was first rate. It was a truly 5-star performance.

Andrea, Ernesto and the blond woman (I didn’t catch her name but she’s awesome). You have an incredible staff with a lot of passion. They clearly appreciate both the food and drinks. Thank god! One of the first restaurants in dc we’ve truly felt at home! We will be back. With friends. Thank you.

I brought my fiancé here for his birthday and it was a 10/10 experience. The food was very tasty, everyone was really nice, the chef came to our table a couple of times to make sure everything was going well! Drinks were well executed too

Causa was a lovely experience once I entered the door, with good service, cool atmosphere, great music (not too loud!) and incredible food. Staff was friendly and attentive, being quick to clear off tables and refill water before I needed to ask, but allowing just enough time so it wasn't robotic feeling. Their staff was knowledgeable and well rehearsed, and they loosened up a bit more as the night went on and personal stories were told. Little birthday treats were a nice touch as well. The food - of course it's amazing. The tasting menu explores Nikkei and more general Peruvian food in a unique approach without being beholden to tradition. That said, there is still a sense of celebrating locations and flavor combinations that evokes good memories. The ceviche mixto Nikkei and Okinawa a la huahacaína both reminded me of the first time I had those dishes. The potatoes also reminded me of potato salad and creamy pastas in white sauce with Parmesan I would have eaten as a kid. The misoyaki and the uni and fried squid in the ceviche reminded me of trips to Japan. And my favorite dish, the Gohan Norteño, both evoked something new and also reminded me of other achiote-stained yellow rice dishes from childhood like arroz con pollo, arroz imperial, and arroz con salchicha. The restaurant peppered just enough luxury into the experience as well for those who are interested in trying some rarer or more expensive ingredients, though the menu is not distracted by that or overly trendy approaches. The cooking is creative and emotional and, importantly, remembers the fundamentals: acidity is always kept at the right level (the leche de tigre in many dishes keeps it pretty high, which I like), crunch is kept in mind, salt is mostly good (a few bites felt overly salty, in the potatoes and the grilled mushroom), and the arc of the menu is satisfying. For any and all looking for a unique and powerful culinary experience with delicious food, try Causa!
