Great dining experience. Even better than 2 years ago when I stay here. Great table and the wait person Mike was most helpful in working with the kitchen to ensure I would be able to eat some of the dishes. The fish was very well prepared, but the standout was the garlic fried rice. DELICIOUS! Overall a very pleasant meal. I plan to eat there every night.

Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Canoe House. We started with the Shokupan Pull-Apart Bread. It was unique and tasty, obviously fresh from the oven. The seaweed butter was too "seaweedy" for my taste. The bread alone was great. We also had the Fresh Catch, which was Snapper that day. It was flavorful and not-at-all fishy. It was served with tatsoi kimchi, which we did not like at all -- maybe it's an acquired taste. We also ordered the Warayaki Tuna. When it is served, you get a bit of a show! They "cook" it right in front of you -- it's hay smoked and seared. The pieces were much small than on the website, but still filling. I can't decide if I prefer my tuna sashimi completely raw or fully cooked -- this was something in-between. I would not order it again however. Dessert was okay (I can't remember what it was called). But, honestly, it had too many tastes competing -- coffee, sesame crumble, cookie, banana and cream. What do they say about creating a dish then remove one ingredient to make it perfect? Service. It was impeccable. The hostesses were friendly and engaging. We had Ian as our waiter and he was a marvel. He never hovered; he explained the menu well, offered opinion when asked, and was overall attentive. HE gets FIVE STARS!

I can tolerate the slow service because of the amazing setting of the restaurant. However, the food was bland and incredibly boring. Japanese infused? Not even close. I can also tolerate being charged exorbitant prices because of the setting, but seriously at least serve good food. Won’t return.

We ordered food to share which was a great idea as the menu has lots of options. Food was delicious and wonderfully seasoned. While we were able to find a wine the list, while extensive, had a largely very expensive offering, even wine by the glass was over $30. Our server, while knowledgeable, friendly, and positive, was overtaxed with too many tables.

We were so sad and disappointed by the food tbh. When looking at the menu ahead of time we noticed some not great reviews but there were still a decent amount of good ones. We were hoping for the best because we aren’t that picky. The servers were very polite and what you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber but everything else fell flat. We ordered one cocktail and it just tasted like straight liquor. I tried stirring it hoping it was layered but no, it was pretty gross and strong but not in a good way. There’s a fine line between too sweet and just right but this was neither. It wasn’t balanced and just tasted like something I would get at a frat house. My husband even couldn’t drink it and he’s way more a drinker than me. We ended up not even finishing it. The bread everyone raves about was decent but not life changing. It was the best thing from everything we ordered though. I got the catch of the day for $53. It was not good. It was slimy and seemed undercooked. It was served on a bed of kimchi which I think maybe added too much moisture? Idk. But the $13 grilled fish from the room service kids menu at Mauna Lani was 100 times better. My husband ordered the fried chicken and it was pretty mid. Nothing we would seek out again. They didn’t bring him a sharp knife so he had to use a butter knife or his hands to eat it. the Fried skin was tough enough that it wasn’t easy to break apart with his fingers. We ordered the fried rice as our side. It was $32 and just tasted like toasted garlic. The flavor was very one note. I had better fried rice at the airport in Hawaii. Overall you’re paying for the view. If you’re staying at the resort, don’t waste your money here. Go to the Halani restaurant instead. I think this type of place just assumes that everyone staying here is very wealthy and they can call it in. When in reality we saved for years for our honeymoon and this was our one fancy restaurant splurge of our whole trip. :(

Great food in a beautiful setting. Skip the veggie sides. They are tasty but tiny and very expensive. The bread is pricey but fun and unique so give it a whirl. The fish dishes were excellent and a decent value. Cocktails were also tasty.

We paid 4 the thank giving menus. And add lobster and prime rib. The menu was very very poor, the testing was bad and the portions were very small. About the lobster was simple and testing bad and the prime rib come with patatoes with no sal and the meet with no flavor. We spend about 1200 dls or more. You are the best restaurant in the Islam and think you are the expensive one and the really really bad restaurant. The chef have to do something about this because the food is really bad.

Excuisite Thanksgiving Day Special Tasting Menu. Added Lobster and Crispy Garlic Fried Rice. The Sousvide Turkey with Gravy and Dressing was wounderful. The Sushi Starter, Scallops, and the enitre, plating, service, and presentation was everything you would want or ask for at a seaside table in Kona on the most beautiful pristine setting you can imagine... But I have pics so you can actually see it!
