We're proud of our history without being complacent and we love to see a happy customer. We've always focused on making our pub unique and we are sure you will notice. So pull up a seat, take a tour round our pub and discover what sets us apart from the rest.

** Please note all bookings are for our restaurant, we offer first come first served for drinks in our bar area.

*** Please note due to licencing restrictions under 18's are not permitted in the main bar, we can seat under 18's and over 5's in the restaurant for dining. We cannot allow under 18's in the restaurant after 10pm.

**** As we are a listed building we do not have Accessible toilets on the ground floor.

    This was the only bad experience I’ve had in Edinburgh. The place looks great, but that’s about it. The service was very slow, the food was very mediocre (not even any peas with the fish and chips for 20) , and the prices were far too high for what you get. They also don’t offer takeaway containers, so half my meal went to waste. I wouldn’t go back and feel that I have wasted my money.

    It’s a beautiful place and the service was friendly but there was a screw-up in the kitchen and it took ages for our food to arrive. We had mussels tasty and a generous amount and Balmoral chicken which was also tasty but a bit salty, and the accompanying pommes Anna were undercooked. A bit disappointing because we had a really good meal on our previous visit.

    I love the Cafe Royal Oyster Bar. We had a wonderful seafood platters which I think was best seafood I have ever had. I have been going to The Cafe Royal for over 30 years and it never disappoints. I had changed the booking from 4 to 6 and the staff were so accommodating and utterly professional.

    Beautiful bar and restaurant. The oysters were fantastic but the service during our lunch was very slow with no updates on why it was taking so long. Also surprised that at an early lunch slot, they had already run out of some ingredients. Will keep it to a Guinness next time!
