I’m from Paris and no Parisian café/bistro looks like this. It’s like this is the « Emily in Paris » stereotype of what a Parisian café is. Service was attentive but very fake nice. Overly fake nice. Sort of creepy. The food was atrocious. Oysters with bits of broken shell that cut my gums. Beef tartare that tasted of nothing but mustard. Confit of chicken that was so dry it was nearly inedible, and boeuf bourguignon that had two tiny pieces of tough beef that a small child could eat in one single bite (and cost 44$ to add insult to injury). It was also missing all the typical ingredients of a boeuf bourguignon. I asked for bread. This is a French restaurant after all. The server was so confused as to why I wanted bread and ended up bring me toast that had been cut up in tiny strips. A French restaurant that doesn’t understand the importance of serving good bread. Wow. We ordered a bottle of wine and weren’t allowed to have the wine on our own table to drink freely. Apparently, the wine must be poured by the server. This is a café, not a 3-Michelin star restaurant. The ambiance was awful. Extremely loud. Loud music, loud severs, loud customers, glasses shattering, cutlery falling on the floor. 250$ meal that we regret. Never again. An Emily in Paris nightmare.

We had the side of beef for 2 and the cheapest bottle of wine. Food was delicious, wine was ok. They do have a bottle for 1/2 price happy hour, which would make the wine prices reasonable (2x store). But we were outside those hours. Nice place for a date service was excellent, even down to how they topped our wine glasses, kept it very even. Facility downside are the bathrooms, it’s a maze to get there and they feel like cleaners closets. Not at the same level as the restaurant at all. Location can’t be beat either, walking distance to most things downtown, and right on the water.

Although the food was very good, the service was quite poor; long waits for water glass refills, had to ask for a dessert menu, had to ask for bill even though clearly evident we were finished dining, menus ( dessert and wine) were left on our table. I had a cocktail to start and might have had a glass of wine with the meal but was not asked and waitstaff immediately left the table after taking our order so no time to do so. It was very quiet, enough staff were present. For me, service is so important to my enjoyment of the experience that I was disappointed in the outing which was a Christmas lunch with a close friend.

We were disappointed to be seated in the drafty, cafe section. They say Cafe by Day, French Bistro by night. That wasn’t our experience. Found the Hostess officious but the food was pretty good; it was the poor ambiance and dining experience that was sour despite the good service from the waiter.

Our server was friendly and very attentive. He really make the experience special. The open concept is not good for intimate dining at all because tables are close and noise travels easily.

The overall experience was wonderful! I am from NB so only get to NS a few times a year to visit our son who lives there and this is my second time at this restaurant this year. I had the french onion soup which was unbelievable - the cheese pull was incredible! Our son had the beef bourguignon which was also really good although it could have been hotter. The ambience, food and vibe are wonderful and I look forward to a future visit!
