The server was excellent. He communicated very well to us and was very professional and polite from the moment we opened the door and entered the restaurant. And a woman who we think was the owner also greeted us and was very lovely. This was a great first impression. Unfortunately for the server, we were the only customers for the one hour plus time we were there. We hope more guests arrived after we left. It was a bit unfortunate that the couscous we originally ordered was not available because they were out of halibut. It was also unfortunate that my first two wine choices were also not in stock. However, overall we had a good experience. The couscous was very tasty. The only thing is that we were expecting it the way we had it in Southern France and that is served in one bowl as a stew and then on the plate is the couscous. Here, it was served together on a plate - not really a stew. However, it was VERY tasty so really no complaint! Also, the third wine choice was very good, so no further complaint there. And I want to emphasize that even with these couple of glitches, we had a very nice experience and this is thanks to the comfortable ambiance and the wonderful communication and presentation of our server. We thank you for that :)

We were excited to have Tunisian food but were disappointed. Our waitress was lovely, but the food & (unlisted) beer prices mean we won't be going back. My lamb was overcooked & smothered in a sauce that was way too sweet, then served with fries. There wasn't any beer on the menu but when we asked the waitress said she had some bottles of Corona & 1664 in the fridge. When the bill came the beers were $12 each.

Great "hidden gem" spot! Amazing ambiance and staff, and will definitely return! One unfortunate element for my visit was that we went during Valentine's so it was a very busy night and that impacted the overall experience and food availability, but that's understandable.

We were disappointed that th We hadplanned to havetheere was a set menu that evening. We had planned to have the mussels. When we reserved and when we were confirmed, there was no mention ofthe set menu. The bellt dancer was fun, but it went on three times too long.

There is no info anywhere that we had to order Valentine's set for $90 per person. The lamb was overcooked and hard to chew

We seemed to have a new waiter (only one for the restaurant). He didn’t know the menu and gave us a wine list that had 70% of the options crossed off. It took forever to get his attention after initially getting our water. We had to ask for the wine menu as he only gave us the food menu. When the food came out, he then told us the lamb was out of stock so the kitchen gave us chicken instead (a quarter of the price for chicken). The food tasted okay, but the food was warm only. The escargot dish was lukewarm only with lack of garlic. I can hear the kitchen person yelling the new waiter what to tell us. Really bad experience for a birthday dinner.

Sadly this restaurant has deteriorated from our good experience before covid. Firstly the choice of wine was laughable for a 'french fusion' restaurant (we had only 3 choices) - the very old printed wine list had most of the wines crossed off (and even some that were not crossed out were not available). The bar ran out of gin for our cocktails as well. This is a sign that a restaurant is in trouble and going downhill. The food had some similar flavours we had experienced before, but lacked a sense of balance or freshness. The front house staff of 2 were nice enough, but serving tables seemed brand new to them (indeed I think for one of them it was his first day, and he was woefully unprepared). There was no sign of experienced management or ownership. This on a Friday night during Dine Out Vancouver. Lastly we were forced to have the Dine Out menu only, no choice of picking something from the regular menu - this should have been mentioned when making our reservation.

We were at Cartage Cafe to celebrate a birthday. We have not been here since before the pandemic and we really missed dining here. Our favorite has always been the mussels. We ordered two different styles as appetizers to share and they were just as delicious as we remembered. For our meals we had the lamb chops and lamb shank. Both were delicious. The Baklava was one of the best we have ever had, not too sweet. The service was great.
