Somehow I hadn't been there for two years, and was delighted to find it just as wonderful as ever! It truly ranks within one of the top five restaurants in town!! Guided by our excellent server, three of us shared: tuna tataki; pork belly bao; wagyu beef; grilled baby bok choy; short ribs; and the always fabulous sweet potato. Followed it up with coocnut cake and an amazing sweet miso pie with bananas. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. We intend to go back and try one of the larger smokehouse items ... Highly recommend!

Overall it was a less than stellar experience. The food was amazing as always but the service was unfortunate. The primary server might have been new or overwhelmed. She was apologetic and very respectful when the issue was brought up. The food and drink runners were fantastic. Julian, the manager, was also fantastic. I will definitely continue to recommend this restaurant to family and friends.

The food at Ukiah is outstanding. We had a variety of the small plates and the salmon sashimi particularly stood out. It was a complex flavor explosion in our mouths. The vegetable gyoza, wagyu sticks, and pork belly bao buns also were excellent. I recommend the bowl of fried pickles as an easy, for-the-table appetizer. All in all the best meal we have had in Asheville! We are locals and we sometimes find that when it comes to restaurants the hype isn’t worth it. In the case of Ukiah, however, it’s worth every bite.

We moved to Asheville a year ago, and just enjoyed our fourth evening at Ukiah. The concept, Japanese smokehouse, can sound a little confusing, but don't let it dissuade you from giving this place a try. The menu is mostly a collection of small plates, and every one we've tried was amazing. The pork belly bao buns are a work of art, but our favorite is the unagi (freshwater eel) skewers, grilled over coals. Just amazing. The bar is also excellent, with great cocktails and the best selection of sake we've found in AVL. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Wow! What a meal. Such unusual but delicious flavors. We all enjoyed it so much! Our favorite thing was the beech mushroom- but all was so good! Our server was great too/

We had a date night here and ordered numerous items all throughout the menu. Every item we had was delicious and we still cannot stop talking about how perfectly cooked the spare rib was.
