Black Sheep Brasserie is located in the heart of downtown Willow Glen, featuring a mix of modern Californian and classic French inspired cuisine composed of seasonal ingredients. With an eclectic and restrained French varietal wine list, local and foreign craft beers, classic rooted cocktails, and an extensive and thoughtful spirits selection; Black Sheep has something for every taste. A collective effort brought together by the man behind Cascal in Mountain View and formerly of Le Mouton Noir, Birk’s, and Cin-Cin. In partnership with the three minds behind The Lexington House in Los Gatos to bring San Jose, and the South Bay, something of a “black sheep” out of the herd…

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Black Sheep Brasserie, now under new ownership, offers "tremendous food" and "excellent service" despite some challenges with consistency in the menu and staffing. Diners appreciate its "great cocktails" and "beautiful ambiance," though some miss the unique dishes and feel service could improve. A promising spot with room to refine.

After years of absence, I was pleased to see a roast chicken on the menu and indeed enjoyed the choice. So now the Black Sheep can actually count as a "French" restaurant; chicken being given the same dedicated care in France as the Japanese pay to the feeding, harvesting, transport and preparing of fish. My companion enjoyed her hearty beef rib on risotto. I was disappointed to see my "go to" menu item at the previous days at Black Sheep, moules frits. (mussels & fried potato sticks) to be dropped from the choices in the new menu...perhaps it will be slipped back in soon.

We came here and Aron was our waiter . Seemed like he rushed our order or was distracted . We had asked for burgers and when our food came out we received 2 steaks . We kindly told Aron about the situation and he never offered to correct the situation, etc . So we ended up eating them . Even when ordering our drinks he kept calling the margaritas even though that wasn’t our drink order . Needless to say it was our first and only time we will be dining here .

Friday night and out of draft beer!!! How can that even be? Next try a Viogner but alas that was not to be had either. Brussels sprouts appetizer was soaked in grease and the cowboy steak was so thin, it looked like it had been pre-cut by Safeway. No wonder why it came out the first time overcooked. Second appearance was somewhat better albeit the meat was almost blue and ice cold by the bone. Finally, the tea choices were really nonexistent. Will NEVER return even though the server did her very best.

The food was excellent, as always. Service was very good; attentive but not hovering. The volume of the music when we arrived was a bit too loud for my taste, but it was appropriate for the setting.

Brought my partner here to enjoy a nice meal for date night. The food was incredible and the service outstanding. Jorge was considerate and generous. The style and decor was edgy and attractive although I think table cloths would go a long way into tying together the environment. Would definitely recommend.
