   We dined at Black Hide over lunch for an end of year function arriving around 12.10. We were first served with sparkling water instead of tap water (which we were later charged for). After ordering our meals took well over an hour to arrive, with us needing to follow up with staff before them arriving around 1.40. The steak was well undercooked compared to what we had ordered, medium which was sent back as it was basically rare. Our chips were also undercooked and went soggy and cold within minutes. Quite a disappointing experience given the price of the meal and the expected calibre of Gambaro.

   We ordered the Wagyu steak and were disappointed in the quality. The sides were ok but fairly lacking in flavour. However, the meals did come out in a reasonable time. The servers were excellent, very knowledgeable and willing to assist. They were also engaging and made us feel like valued customers. We stared out at the bar, as we were early. The bar tenders were happy to make any cocktail we asked for and made great suggestions. The atmosphere and design were nice and not too noisy. Overall, the atmosphere and service was what made the night. However, the food was disappointing and not of fine dining quality.

   I have dined at the original treasury Black Hide and the Caxton Black Hide, this experience isn't the same. It feels like this iteration has been shoe-horned into an Italian restaurant. It is much lighter themed and there isn't as much focus on explaining the products the restaurant can supply. Honestly, it feels like this is a temporary venue where Black Hide is existing until it can relocate to something that suits it better but it still demands the same price point. The steaks are still really good but everything else is average and you're better off with one of the more bespoke brisbane steak joints.

   Our anniversary dinner. The first glass of wine was not cold, which was a bit disappointing. I had to ask for ice, but once it was corrected, it was fine. The biggest letdown came with my entrée, the scallops, were served tepid, which didn’t match the fresh, high-quality ingredients I was expecting. However, the prawns were absolutely delicious — cooked to perfection and full of flavour.

   Black Hide is billed as a leading restaurant of the highest quality dining expereince in Brisbane, run by a family who have been doing it so well for generations. Generally it delivers on that. Brilliant venue, looks fantastic, impressive Red Emporer to greet you followed by MeatLovers Lane which commands a closer inspection before I arrive at my table. A distinctive nod to a Qld relaxed style, comfortable shoes and all. The kitchen is skilled, entrees and main delivering exaclty what is promised. Fresh, generous portions, leaving the seafood (prawns and Red Emporer in our case) to speak for itself, the diner free to flavour with accompaniments. Attention to detail on king prawns and the emporer presented with its full size retained, grilled to perfection and simplicity on a plate. The carnivore guest, an expert himself on cow cooked cleverly, appreciated the consistency of the tenderness and the full flavour of the Angus. As one who has loved the introduction of Coravin to wine menus in Brisbane, I was dissapointed in the very limited choices, especially as the purpose is to present showcase premium wines by the glass to enable the variety with each course. We appreciated our attendants from welcome to bill, our key waiter read the table so well, joined in, guided us expertly and gave our anniversary celebration a great experience to remember.    Mr Nicolas made an error in sending me an email less than 24 hrs if reservation to suggest our table might be tight for 6 people despite booking 6 months prior!!!!! Not so smart

    Great location and food. We opted to sit outside which was lovely however where we were seated there we no fans (they do have fans outside), there are no blinds to shield the sun in the late afternoon so with the sub beaming down on us it got very hot. After we finished our meal we asked if we could relocate (out of the sun) and were told we could sit at the bar. This was fine however once we moved inside we were ignored therefore the establishment lost out on any further purchases of alcohol, we went elsewhere.
