Bata is a restaurant designed to celebrate the best our region has to offer. We cook over a live oak fire, on our custom fabricated hearth. Our menu changes daily. We mill AZ grown grain in house, daily. We focus on whole animal butchery, done in house. We have an extensive fermentation program. Our bar program largely focuses on wines that are organic, biodynamic, and produced with minimal intervention. The cocktail list highlights the best products of the season, with a carefully curated list of spirits from across the globe. We believe that our hospitality is just as important as the food and beverages we put on the table.

We do not encourage our restaurant for young children. We do not have any highchairs in house and ask that you please bring your own if it is required.

We do not offer any outdoor seating. Private dining, kitchen counter and large party seating available. Email hello@batatucson.com for inquiries.

The inventive menu met every expectation that the rave reviews I read here and elsewhere created. It was very stimulating to a jaded palette, the dishes by every turn inspired in conception and flavorful in execution. As the restaurant does not publish its perhaps daily changing menu, I can’t properly name my dishes. The mushroom tart came with (for a mere $7 supplement) generous lashings of OR black truffle. The albacore crudo was the best raw tuna dish I’ve had this year, with shavings of raw turnip providing an unexpected but brilliant counterpoint. Their Sonoran spin on beef carpaccio should be recorded in a published recipe. I’ve never seen squash sorbet on a menu—with candied orange zest, it made for a refreshing ending. My server was highly professional and well informed about menu and wine pairings. She graciously brought a gift dish when one of mine not mentioned here disappointed me. Finally, the prices here are a bargain for fine dining at this level. A great exemplar of Tucson’s culinary scene.

We ordered the “surprise”menu and let the kitchen decide what we were having. It was a fun experience and the food was amazing - creative and delicious. We really appreciated the unique no- alcohol drinks menu as well. I think this is our new favourite restaurant in Tucson. Great food, great service and great ambience. We appreciated being able to talk over dinner without shouting.

We love this restaurant and have eaten here many times. The food is probably the most interesting and well executed in Tucson.

Overall disappointing. We went to celebrate our anniversary. They greeted us with a nice happy anniversary card which was a great way to start. Service was strained and hard to get attention of our server. Also kitchen was really slow. For the first hour all we got was a bread and our drink. We chose the $65 let the chef pick your dinner each plan, wish we didn’t do that. Our server apologized for the delays but didn’t really offer another complimentary drink or anything. Then 3 dishes hit at once and they were all mediocre, the kale Caesar thing was maybe the best but really tough greens they needed to be tenderized. All the dishes felt poorly executed but decent ideas. Head chef must not have been there that night. Many things were overcooked on the open fire grill. Turnips inedible. The cabbage charred but cooked on too hot grill the inside wasn’t tender. The sunchoke kimichi thing rocked with the braised beef that was the best balanced bite. The bean dish with purée was confusing and bitter, not sure what to call it. And the pancake with pickled onion was wayyyyy too salty. The NA soda was too sweet. Everything was lacking balance and refinement. Everything LOOKS nice which is what let us down. We ended up being there for 2.5 hours? And we wanted to leave by hour and half in. The squash sorbet was maybe the best thing…they gave us a complimentary anniversary piece of cake which was very nice and pretty with choclate script on plate. The little Cake piece didn’t taste good but it’s ok. Unfortunately I wouldn’t come back and I wouldn’t recommend. Something was very off and I’m certain other guests were feeling it across the board. Bummer.

First off, our server was outstanding. We did the Chef's Selection dinner for 2. $65pp. When we ordered our server asked about allergies and if we had any requirements. No allergies but we did say we are protein eaters and would like to limit carbs. Told no issues there. Of the 5 dishes served, only 1 had meat. About 1.5 to 2 on of beef that was like pot roast and somewhat dry. So we paid $130 for vegetables. Unfortunately the vegetables were also a few minutes short of al dente. If you are a vegan you will hit a home fun as the vegetables were seasoned expertly.

Bata is hands-down our favorite restaurant in Tucson. There is nowhere else in town that is as creative with their menu as the team at Bata, and they do it using local suppliers and farmers. The menu is always an adventure and the entire staff is professional, talented and kind.

The food is plated beautifully, but unfortunately nothing was seasoned last night or above room temperature. Had to request salt and acid (lemon) to season two of the dishes ourselves. We also had a scary allergy near-miss, though we informed the restaurant about it twice when we made the reservation and when we were seated. I saved this restaurant for a special occasion and really wanted to love it, but we ordered a third of the menu (6 dishes) and there wasn't a dish I'd come back for.

One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. We sat at the bar and were very well taken care of. We were able to try several things on the menu and each one was outstanding. If you are in Tucson, Bata is a must!
