About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Great for creative cocktails
Leisurely cafe by day, Bastia transforms to a Mediterranean restaurant by night and draws culinary inspiration from the sun-drenched islands of Corsica and Sardinia

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Tyler Akin

From the OpenTable editors: Acclaimed chef Tyler Akin is back with Bastia, his stylish Mediterranean restaurant inside Fishtown’s Anna & Bel hotel. Snag a seat at one of the green marble bar tops or at a cozy table by the fireplace to dig into seafood-forward dishes like sea urchin butter tartine paired with playful cocktails and riffs on classic aperitivi. Either way, the all-day cafe is made for lingering, just like his beloved and now-shuttered Res Ispa was.

Review: Bastia — A Mediterranean Marvel With One Foot Still on the Dock I’ve dined my way through the starred kitchens of New York, the sun-drenched dining rooms of California, and the hallowed halls of Europe’s finest Michelin-anointed temples. Rarely, though, have I encountered a restaurant so unexpectedly arresting as Bastia — a name that, until recently, conjured little more for me than a ferry stop in Corsica. But what unfolds on the plates here is a revelation. At a quiet 3 p.m. Easter brunch — the kind of culinary dead zone where lesser restaurants start phoning it in — Bastia delivered a masterclass in balance and creativity. Each dish arrived with the kind of intention that suggests a chef not just guiding a kitchen, but tasting along the way, course by course, component by component. The ingredients were clearly well-sourced (a baseline these days), but it was the cohesion — the intelligence of how those ingredients were composed and layered — that elevated the experience from competent to captivating. It’s easy to chase luxury in a bottle of olive oil or a glistening fillet of fish. What’s hard — what Bastia nails — is the alchemy of making those elements sing together, surprising and delighting with every bite. There’s finesse here, and restraint, too. It’s cooking that doesn’t try too hard to impress, yet impresses nonetheless.

Bastia is a cut above most dining experiences. The setting is casual and elegant, beautifully designed and feels cozy and intimate. The small plates that were served were absolutely fantastic and served leisurely and also efficiently. Each dish was better than another, a feast of flavor combinations and amazing textures. Order the orata! And the olive oil cake was the best that I have had. We will return !

Celebrated my birthday last night! The building is so beautiful! The manager, Kate, and our server didn’t miss a detail! We loved all of our plates, but especially the Amberjack with Harry’s berries, the iberico pork, monkfish pasta, and artichoke salad! The clementine candle for my birthday was another testament to the thought and execution of service true to their brand! Can’t wait to come back with family and friends on another night out and to check out the separate cocktail lounge! Xx

Myself and my husband celebrated my birthday at Bastia last night, on April 16, and it was the right place to celebrate! Cozy atmosphere, lovely decor, unique, great quality and amazing food inspired by Sardinia and Corsica islands, attentive service made our evening unforgettable! It was our first time at Bastia, but we for sure come back!

Excellent food but extremely slow service. I was there for over 2 hours for brunch and we are fast eaters. The wait staff was around doing things like setting up tables without realizing we are sitting there, looking at them, and waiting to pay. Even after getting the check, there was no follow-up. I had to walk to the waiter to get my card run so I can get out.
