The goal of Basic kitchen is simple:

Use seasonal, local produce and the best ingredients to create food that is fresh, nourishing and delicious, giving you tons of energy to pursue the things you love.

We’re big into diverse flavors and are inspired by dishes from around the world. In our kitchen you’ll find tons of local produce, whole grains and legumes, a rainbow of spices and vinegars, lots of healthful oils, wild-caught seafood and sustainably raised meat. We believe the choices we make through food can have a positive impact on our health, community and environment.

Located in the heart of downtown Charleston, Basic Kitchen is housed in a historic building with floor to ceiling windows and a covered courtyard filled with plants and herbs used by the kitchen. Open for brunch and dinner, guest can enjoy a rotating daily menu featuring simple, seasonal and delightful dishes.

Great overall experience. Clean healthy food prepared very creatively and so full of flavor. Service was excellent. Not too big or too loud or too crowded.

The great location and ambiance of The Basic Kitchen was incredible. The staff was also extremely wonderful and helped us tremendously. We brought our young daughter and she loved it, as did we. We would, and will, recommend The Basic Kitchen to all our friends and family.

We had a wonderful time. The lamb burger was the best we’ve had and we were impressed with the wine selection. Our sever was warm, patient and accommodating. We will certainly be back!

Had a great waitress and the environment was clean and inviting. I made the mistake of taking my meat and potato husband to this restaurant and it wasn’t his cup of tea for dinner. Meals are very healthy and pretty light. For the more health conscious, I think you would love this place.
