About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Romantic
  • Charming
The neighbourhood Italian restaurant you’ve always dreamed of, Bar Prima features a luxurious atmosphere that evokes a sense of timelessness and nostalgia. The restaurant design captures an old-school charm with dimly lit ambiance, creating an elevated and elegant atmosphere. From Italian disco inspired music to vintage design touches, Chefs Craig Harding and Julian D’Ippolito have curated a space that feels as though it’s been there forever.

Bar Prima can at times feel opulent with its banquets and table lamps but can also feel relaxed and romantic. We seek to share our passion for food, beverage and hospitality, creativity and design with our open-minded guests!

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Julian D'Ippolito

From the OpenTable editors: With its arched gold leaf ceiling, royal blue accents and marble inlay floor, Bar Prima is a stunner from the moment you step inside. The restaurant menu, built on refined Italian-American dishes like spaghetti all’amatriciana and veal chop marsala, delivers equal wow factor. For drinks, the wine list steals the show, spanning from Italian classics to offbeat natural bottles.

We had a lovely dining experience at Bar Prima. The food was mostly fantastic, with the Scallops Rockefeller being a standout—absolutely superb! The Lobster Pasta, while good, didn’t quite meet our expectations. However, the Wagyu Coulotte and Potato Pave were amazing, really hit the mark. For dessert, we had the Tiramisu, which was a delightful end to the meal, especially with the birthday candle they added for me. Our server was polite, but his energy was a bit off. He didn’t seem cheerful. Additionally, the pacing of the meal was slower than expected. We’re not fast eaters, but it did catch our attention that the food was served at a slower pace. The GM was also nice! Overall, it was a great meal, but there are a few areas for improvement in service and speed.

Delicious and beautiful space. The pate appetizer was delicious. Scallops were addictive and the leftover sauce was devoured by the bread our server brought. The pasta was the perfect level of spice. Steak was too small of a portion for the peicepoint. The dessert was the best I have ever had...wow.

I recently dined at Bar Prima and it was a really enjoyable experience. I tried the Wagyu steak, which was tender, flavorful, and cooked beautifully. I also had two pasta dishes — the spaghetti, which was simple but well-executed, and a braised lamb pasta that was rich, comforting, and full of depth. For dessert, I ordered a potato-based dessert (I can’t recall the name), but it was surprisingly good — light, subtly sweet, and a nice, unique finish to the meal. Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant, the service was solid, and the food definitely left a good impression. I’d happily come back to try more of their menu.

Tomato Tramezzini was a great way to start. Scallops were phenomenal, lobster pasta was great, and the swordfish was prepared and served beautifully. The potato pavé was also an excellent pairing. Our server was great; attentive and knowledgeable. Beautiful on both levels, intimate and cozy atmosphere. Bathrooms are clean and match the vibe of the restaurant - the faucets in the bathrooms are also super cool.

The outside might be easy to miss if you if you're not looking for it, but once you get inside, you get greeted by great staff into a fairly small space that has warm ambience and feel to it. Our sever was amazing, doing a very good high level review of the menu and helping us with drinks and food options. The food was delicious, from the apps to dessert. We weren't rushed in between dishes and had an opportunity to enjoy the company (reminded us of our trip to Italy last summer). Highly recommend a visit to Bar Prima.

Food and service were great. Unfortunately we were seated in the basement which was extremely loud. Make sure you request a table upstairs when booking.
