   We recently visited Bar La Rue with a group of friends, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! From start to finish, the atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, setting the perfect tone for a fun evening out. To start, we shared a few appetizers, including the indulgent fondue and the fresh kale and apple salad—both were big hits with the group. For our mains, my wife and I couldn’t resist the Provence Style Cheeseburger with Gruyère cheese fondue. It was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful, easily one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. Others in our group tried the steak frites and bougie chicken nuggets (complete with caviar!), which were equally impressive. We capped off the night with desserts that truly hit the sweet spot. The vanilla crème brûlée and warm apple bread pudding were decadent and beautifully presented—an excellent end to a memorable meal. Overall, Bar La Rue impressed us with its creative menu, impeccable service, and lively ambiance. It’s a must-visit spot in Chicago, especially for a group night out. We’ll definitely be back!

   The food was very good! If you are going at night though, it is very loud inside with the music. We enjoyed the music for our girls night out but at times it was hard to hear what each other was saying. Service was decent. There were times we were out of water and wanted to order more drinks that took some time to get, but our server was very kind.

   It was all of our first time here so we were excited! Unfortunately, we got seated 30 minutes after our reservation time. I told the host and the server we had a birthday multiple times. Service in the beginning was super fast and friendly! Once we got our food our server disappeared. Once we finished they didn’t bring out a birthday dessert or even offer dessert… we had to hunt her down and all she said was that we can scan the QR code to pay. Once we paid it in full said we still owed $40?! It took another 15-20 minutes to get the manager and finally he said he didn’t know why and we can just leave. I expected better from what I heard but the food and drinks were really good! So maybe just a bad service night, not sure I’ll try again.

   Our server was fabulous! Recommend the best drinks and food options for our parties size! Sat in the outside area and the ambiance was perfect, thank you Bar La Rue!

    Beyond disappointed. One of the worst restaurants in the city at its price point. I've been dying to try Bar La Rue since it opened, especially seeing their fun offerings like the caviar & creme fraiche chicken nuggets, and finally went there last night on a date. From the start, we had an 8:45 reservation, yet weren't seated until past 9pm. They didn't offer us a drink while we were waiting or anything, literally just watched other people go in. When we finally were let in, we were placed at the table directly next to both the loudspeaker and the kitchen. So not only was the music blasting in our ears, but literally every two seconds staff was moving about two feet from us. We were frustrated but figured whatever because at least the food would be good, right? Nope. I'm not gonna sit here and say it was gross, because it was totally fine, but it was absolutely NOTHING to write home about. The caviar was low quality and fishy, the nugget not even fried well enough to have a decent crunch. The lobster roll was cold and uninspired, lacking not only butter, but anything to make it stand out at all. Now for the worst part: we got 2 chicken nuggets, ONE plate off the "snack" menu, 2 entrees, and 4 drinks, and it was $272 with a 20% tip. $272!!! Let's put that into perspective: you could go to a top 5 restaurant in the city, get their finest steak, a massive side, and 2-3 glasses of wine and it would be LESS expensive than this. I am not someone who tends to write reviews in general unless a place REALLY pushes me one way or another, and I have to say, this is one of those times. The only positives were that the restaurant itself was cute, and the waiter was very nice and helpful. Otherwise - it's a miracle I'm not calling my card company to get a chargeback because this meal, even with 4 drinks, was worth MAYBE $150 and that's still pushing it.
