Salu-Salo loosely translates in Tagalog to gathering friends and family to feast. Join us for an evening of celebration as we explore the power of resistance and reclamation and the Filipino diaspora through food, wine and storytelling. Hosted by Bendito Destino, Askal, Another Bottle and Colournary this one-night-only event is more than just a wine dinner, it’s a celebration of heritage, identity and evolution. Meet Terry Kandylis and Jessa Jastrzemski, the powerhouse duo behind Spanish wine label Bendito Destino, and celebrate her Filipino roots alongside their innovative winemaking style; sample six of their wines, paired along with a bespoke five-course menu by Askal – offering Filipino flavours through a contemporary lens, curated by John Rivera (Kariton Sorbetes, ex-Amaru, Sunda, Lume). Date: Monday, April 7th | Time: 7 PM | Location: Askal, Melbourne Price: $250.00 per person (all-inclusive) Bendito Destino is a project born from rediscovering 80-100-year-old bush vines in Ribera del Duero, Spain: grape varieties once at risk of extinction, now revived with fresh energy. Just as these vines thrive in harmony, our menu will reflect the evolution of Filipino food from the likes of Hokkien-inspired pork humba to Mexican-influenced champorado. Imported into Australia for the first time by Another Bottle, this is an exclusive opportunity to taste six wines from Bendito Destino: rare, terroir-driven expressions of Ribera del Duero, including: Bendito Destino Albillo Mayor 2022 Bendito Destino Clarete (rose) 2022 Bendito Destino Field Blend Red 2022 Bendito Destino Fuentecebolla 2021 Bendito Destino El Olmar 2021 Bendito Destino La Cabaña 2021 This event is co-hosted by Colournary, and will blend storytelling and history into what will be a feast for the senses. With only a handful of spots, this is your chance to be part of something truly special. Secure your seat now. About Terry Kandylis: Terry Kandylis, A former UK Sommelier of the Year and head of Noble Rot’s wine program with Greek roots, Terry discovered these forgotten vineyards in 2020, many planted at altitudes of up to 925m. Today, his project spans 8 hectares of historic, low-yielding vines, producing wines that are refined, energetic, and Burgundian in style rather than the heavily extracted styles once popularized by critics. About Jessa Jastrzemski: Born in the Philippines, Jessa has built a career in hospitality, working at top establishments across the world. Early on, she met Terry while both were at The Fat Duck in 2010, setting the stage for a journey through some of the finest restaurants worldwide, including Alain Ducasse in Paris and Brae in Australia. The pandemic brought her back to the UK, where she played a key role in reopening The Ledbury before becoming General Manager of La Dame de Pic London.

Delicious!! Being a Pinoy myself, I loved the twists and elevation of our traditional fare back home. I'm glad we chose the Piyesta meal - it was yummmm 😋😋. Great ambience with the capiz chandeliers and brick walls too! And the crew were very kid friendly and accommodating!

Was very excited to try a different take on Filipino food. Askal is bold, coherent, and has a lot of potential. Though some flavours were hit and miss like the balut kwek kwek. It had too much going on and tasted like a dish made by someone who doesnt eat balut tried to completely mask the balut flavour. I especially loved the pancit canton with crab and egg. The desserts coups be more exciting. A take on halo halo or kakanin or sorbetes would have finished the meal on a higher note. Service was excellent and attentive and could not be faulted. They took care to ensure we finish our meal in time for our theatre start time.

Food and service are great. The staff took time to explain the menu and provide recommendations. I enjoyed everything I ordered such as Ox Tail Kare-kare, chicken & mushroom siomai, and Tocino pork belly with salted egg yolk garlic fried rice.

Great food and great service as always, we sat upstairs this time which initially we thought might not be as nice but it was actually a lovely setting with a beautiful nostalgic feel, surrounded by rustic red brick walls and very good noise control.

we love Askal imaginative and creative fun food and cocktails and wine list small but focussed and well-chosen. the waiting staff were brilliant and it is fun to witness the kitchen staff at work - and seamlessly and calmly at that. some concerns: 1. this is the second time we have scored the seats next to the toilet exit - we miss out on most of the vibes of being at the restaurant. 2. noise levels - we are old and don't need the music 3. food is wonderful but like most restaurants - too much salt. this is not necessary and is not healthy either.. but like i said - we love Askal and will return - but not to those same seats! :)

This is my 4th times be in here previous the 3th times everything was perfectly but this time I saw there are new chef in the role and the main course was really unacceptable the meat was blue and very chewy and the rice is over seasoned super strong flavor and salty the steak was terrible and there had a new dish is the blue swimmer crab noodles and the noodles was over cooked and stick together only the entree is perfect at this time might not come back for the next time.
