The food and our server were superb. But the prices were steep. The kingfish carpaccio was bright and refreshing. The focaccia was fluffy, with just the right amount of salt and olive oil. Lemony tortelli reminded us of pasta on the Amalfi Coast. However, at $50 (or, possibly, even more), the delicious lamb shank came plated with nothing else. The fagiole e pane (beans and bread) were creamy good, but $15 for a side of beans? The ambiance is paradoxically rustic but elegant. The dining room calls to mind farm tables in a villa somewhere in the Tuscan countryside. Vintage pots and pans hang on the walls. Potted olive trees provide simple greenery. The sight of the wood-burning oven in the open kitchen warms the space if only by suggestion. The only wrong note is the background music, which seems unnecessary, especially when the house is full and the din makes conversation difficult. This was a celebratory meal, so we were prepared to pay more than we do on our usual dinners out. But just in case the restaurant reads these reviews, we hope it will consider this: If menu prices were a tad lower, we'd gladly dine at Antico Nuovo regularly instead of only on special occasions. In other words, more frequent visits could be a win-win situation.

The focaccia with the duck liver pate, beef cheek pappardelle and focaccia ice cream (yes, seriously) are all musts.

Food was delicious and the restaurant is beautiful! Staff is not the warmest. Server kept referring to us as "kids" which we found to be disrespectful and unnecessary. To be clear, we are not kids.

the dishes were quite inventive and not the sort of things we encounter in san diego restaurants. the squab pasta was amazingly tasty, the branzino perfectly prepared and delicious and the broccoli with olive oil, garlic and lemon couldn't have been better. the honeycomb ice cream and cannoli were just the right ending to our wonderful meal. the wine list was also inventive and the bottle of sicilian grillo blend paired perfectly with our dishes.

I leave Antico feeling like it isn't worth it. It always feels too expensive. The food is very good but not as outstanding as other restaurants where the service is better. I always feel rushed at Antico. I was thoughtful enough to call and say I was running 10 minutes late and instead of thanking me for calling and saying, "we'll see you soon," I was reminded when my table needed to be turned over. Not the nicest thing to say while combatting Friday night traffic and not the feeling I want to have as I sit down to a dinner that is over $300 for two people. The service feels random. Staff that isn't your server asking if you have questions on the menu because they are pushing you to keep things moving. I respect that restaurants have to turn tables over but most do it with a subtly that is unnoticeable rather than in your face. My advice is to be more thoughtful about the diners experience and take some of the pressure off of your customers.

It’s one of the best restaurants top to bottom in LA. The food is impeccable, the service is top notch and the staff is so kind and cool, and it just is a special place

Truly lived up to the hype. Focaccia with Whipped Ricotta, Chard and Broccoli Cesar, and Ice Creams are must tries.
