About this restaurant

  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
Abacá is an airy, atelier-style restaurant with a cool outdoor terrace, whipping up Filipino-Californian cuisine with flair in Fisherman's Wharf. It's the bricks-and-mortar spin off of chef Francis Ang's pop-up Pinoy Heritage. The lively menu is split up into barbecue sticks, noodles and rice, and small to big plates, but its far more nuanced than just that. Flavourful dishes pull from family recipes and are glazed with modern and heritage technique to result in a vibrancy that's hard to come by. It's grounded by local produce. Smoked Bay scallops lead in the seafood pancit, heirloom tomatoes top homemade tinapay bread, chicken skin is glazed in an adobe before hitting the grill and guinea fowl comes slathered with peanut sauce. A truncated list of creative Southeast Asian libations bring it full circle – if you're on the terrace, cool off with the Baguio breeze slushy – a dreamy mix of pandan-infused vodka, coconut and strawberry.

This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had during our trip over the weekend. My son was so happy with our dining experience too. We did not order much since we wanted to try different things throughout the day but next time I will want to order more. The Trout Toast, Sisig Fried Rice, Adobo sticks and Pork Sticks are definitely a must. Oh and yes the Ube Colada which we got as a virgin drink. Loved the whole experience and the vibe.

My young niece really likes the pandasal bread and asked for a second order. Everyone liked their drinks. The employees wrote a birthday card which was a nice touch :)

We came in to celebrate our engagement & were able to try the SF Restaurant Week tasting menu, we were absolutely blown away by how incredible everything was. The food was some of the best we have ever had, the service was quick and the servers were all incredibly kind and helpful. When the server found out we had just gotten engaged they brought back a card signed by the kitchen staff congratulating us, which we greatly appreciated. They made our night very special and we will absolutely be back with family in the future.

I've wanted to try the Philippine cuisine at Abaca since I first heard about them. The experience was better than I had hoped. The space is beautiful and the restaurant is wonderful. I look forward to going back. When we walked in the host asked if we were celebrating anything special. I said it was a belated birthday celebration for my friend. After that every employee we came in contact with wished him a happy birthday. They even printed out a card. It was a great way to make us feel welcome. Our server, Keoki, was great about explaining the menu and all the sections. We were also lucky to be there during restaurant week. There was a special price on the four course price fixed menu. All of his recommendations were spot on from the cocktails to the side dishes, main courses, and sake. Every dish was delicious and many were outstanding. The pork lumpia, pork skewers, trout toast, and sisig rice are all worth another try. There are also many more items on the menu that I want to try. That includes the vegetarian lumpia. The duck entree was also unusual and amazing. I recommend doing the price fixed meal because it's an incredible value. Again, every member of the staff was friendly and welcoming. A special thanks to Keoki for knowing the menu so well and understanding our tastes to point us to the perfect dishes. I look forward to my next visit.

Beautiful space, beautifully placed foods. The foods took quite long and it was hard to get the waiters’ attention, but overall a great place with delicious foods.

I usually don’t write reviews but our experience was really excellent. Especially the vegetarian Chef’s tasting menu was spectacular. The wine pairing was really nice as well! Wouldn’t be surprised if they got their first star very soon.

I love how Abacá has put their own style into Filipino-Chinese food and other Filipino favorites. We went at the perfect time, during the SF Restaurant week so we had a chance to sample most of their menu at a lowered price. I must say, we were blown away by how good the food tasted. The owners and staff were all very nice and accommodating. I always recommend Abacá to anyone I know who are in the area, and we would definitely be coming back.
