Abacá is an airy, atelier-style restaurant with a cool outdoor terrace, whipping up Filipino-Californian cuisine with flair in Fisherman's Wharf. It's the bricks-and-mortar spin off of chef Francis Ang's pop-up Pinoy Heritage. The lively menu is split up into barbecue sticks, noodles and rice, and small to big plates, but its far more nuanced than just that. Flavourful dishes pull from family recipes and are glazed with modern and heritage technique to result in a vibrancy that's hard to come by. It's grounded by local produce. Smoked Bay scallops lead in the seafood pancit, heirloom tomatoes top homemade tinapay bread, chicken skin is glazed in an adobe before hitting the grill and guinea fowl comes slathered with peanut sauce. A truncated list of creative Southeast Asian libations bring it full circle – if you're on the terrace, cool off with the Baguio breeze slushy – a dreamy mix of pandan-infused vodka, coconut and strawberry.

High quality food and service. Reasonable prices. A great mixture of traditional Filipino food with contemporary American flair. You can tell that there was a lot of effort made into creating the menu. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu.

For a family of 6 ordered fixed price menu $85 per person. Also ordered drinks. For the most part, food was good. Pork chop was very salty. Only one serving of rice and noodles for 6 people Noisy, 2 unrelated to us customers were sitting at the end of our table, nothing special about the ambiance. Got charged for desert that was supposed to be included in the menu separately, though this was quickly removed when I asked. For $875 a horrific value overall

Food was prepared with excessive amount of coconut milk. We had the tasting menu and more than half the dishes had heavy coconut milk sauce. So all began to taste the same and though advertised as a tasting menu the portions were huge and the dishes indistinguishable. Unpleasant dining

Our waiter and every single person who served our dishes were wonderful. The service, from when we were greeted, all the way to the end—we were treated with such care and fun! We were in town to celebrate a reunion, a baby, and a birthday. We had the tasting menu with the kaldereta and cocktails/mocktails. All were fantastic. Because I am pregnant, the staff made sure I was accommodated and still experienced flavorful dishes. Everything was superb and, as a native Filipino, I was pleased as to how our heritage was honored. We will be back.

Brunch/lunch service was terrible slow on a Saturday. Pastries were tasty but the actual brunch entrees were disappointing. They also wouldn’t let us split the bill, so I wouldn’t recommend it for larger groups.

Very good service, but the quality of food is dissapointing compared to the money we paid. Do not go for the combo deal that is offered on Sunday!
