Still the best Prime Rib in Minneapolis, St. Paul. It's a bit spendy here, but the service is not pretentious like some of the other big name steakhouses in downtown Minneapolis and that alone is reason enough for us to keep coming back. Not to mention; if you go on Sunday, it's a deal that can't be beat.

My wife and I went to 801 Chophouse for my birthday dinner. It was our first time eating there. The restaurant is beautiful, clean, and classy. The menu is similar to Manny's and other high end steakhouses. One thing that is different from other similar restaurants is the prices. All steakhouses of this level are expensive, but 801 Chophouse's prices are exorbitant which is likely why the restaurant was not at all crowded for a Friday night. My 30 ounce Porterhouse steak was $139.00. Our overall meal, though we had appetizers, salads, and two side dishes along with our steaks (my wife had a Petite Filet Mignon that was 8 ounces) was over $400 before tip, and that is without any liquor. I had a coke which was an 8 ounce bottle for $4,50 (no reason not to have soda on a gun other than to charge more money) though they only charged $1.50 for the second small bottle. The food was exceptional. Our steak tartare was tasty and a generous sized portion. The shrimp cocktail was large and tasty though the cocktail sauce was too hot to enjoy. The bread was great, tasty and salty. My 1/2 size Wedge salad was crisp and fresh with a tasty house ranch dressing (that I had instead of bleu cheese). My wife's Tomato and Onion salad was generously sized with a large amount of tomatoes, and flavorful. My Porterhouse steak was disappointing in some ways but also enjoyable though not for that price. The steaks are seared which results in them being almost burnt on the outside and underdone in the middle, though that is partly because of thick the steaks are. I prefer a more even level of cooking. The strip side of my steak was actually better than the filet side, which is usually not the case. My wife's Filet Mignon was more evenly cooked but less tasty than mine, in my opinion. The seared Foie Gras that we had on the side was small but prepared well and enjoyable. Our asparagus and scalloped potatoes sides were great. The service was attentive and friendly but not always responsive

801 is a must when I visit Minneapolis. The food and service are always top notch. And Patrick did an excellent job navigating a unique situation. Two in our party were very delayed. I ordered for them, and our meals arrived soon after the rest of our party. The service was very efficient without feeling rushed. Another great experience.

Great food, bone in New York Strip was excellently prepared, the one pound lobster was fantastic. The pecan tart was delicious. Service was prompt and attentive but not overly so.

This was an overall great experience. Waiter was super attentive and very pleasant to talk to. The food was good...I had the Ribeye and my wife had the filet...both were cook to specification. Sides were garlic mash potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The mash potatoes were a bit heavy but the sprouts were delicious. Would certainly visit again!
