Love this place. Food is always great. It’s always busy with a long wait, but the ambience makes up for it. Quaint, old world feel, I love the Tap Room, but we waited 20 minutes between empty drinks while we waited for food that too 40 minutes. Would not have minded the wait if the drinks did not take so long.

My wife and I are big fans of old, colonial-era restaurants. We love Wayside Inn and we just recently found a new favorite in Westminster’s 1761. We were very disappointed that Publick House did not prove itself to be in their caliber. When we first arrived at Publick House, our hopes were high. The architecture was beautiful and a fire in the hearth welcomed us inside. Service throughout the meal was fine, worthy of a full tip, but no more. The food was where we felt really let down. My wife’s baked scrod was flavorless, and my pot roast was chewy with a thin, bland gravy. While we normally get dessert with a special meal like this one, we felt it wouldn’t be worthwhile after such a mediocre entree. While Publick House seemed like a great fit for our tastes, it did not live up to its potential. In the event they get a new chef and/or menu, we’d happy to give them another shot, but I don’t foresee us returning otherwise.

The family and I have been to the Public House many, many times and have enjoyed it immensely every time. The food is excellent, the staff is always friendly and professional, and, as an early American history fanatic, the building itself is absolutely beautiful. I would always recommend dining or staying over at the Public House. You won't be disappointed.

Our lunch was absolutely wonderful at the Public House. The decorations are New England charming and the food was very good, service by Emily was great, and the fire in the fireplace added much ambiance. We want to make this an annual tradition we live in CT so the ride was 1 hour tops. We were there in September and after having a great lunch we felt it would be a perfect holiday pick for lunch.

It’s a very sweet place and the ambiance is beautiful especially at Christmas time. The food is mediocre. It tasted and looked like banquet food. My scallops were soaking in butter, oil and bread crumbs, but was bland. Green beans and rice was nothing special and was very bland as well. Clam chowder was good and the bread basket was wonderful! Service was great and everyone was very nice.
