Constructed in 1833 as a residence and serving later as an inn, the building has been painstakingly renovated to preserve as many of the original materials as possible, including four working fireplaces. Thomas Juul-Hansen designed the restaurant’s interior with a modern yet rustic sensibility; zinc and marble accent stone and reclaimed wood. The restaurant’s lighting, artfully conceived by Hervé Descottes, employs paper shades and Edison fixtures to create warmth throughout.

The restaurant is named after America’s most famous founding father, Benjamin Franklin. While he was pinnacle in America’s birth, he also became the first ambassador to France. While on trips to Paris, he would wine and dine with the best of them and when he returned, he would bring back the French culture, food and wine, and share it with our new nation. Fantastic dining experience. Service and food were superb. It’s a small restaurant in a charming converted schoolhouse. Staff were attentive and friendly. The one negative is the noise level. If you’re looking for a quiet dining experience this might not be the right fit. For me, this is a great choice to take someone for a special occasion or someone visiting from out of town.

We love going to the Roger Sherman Inn. It’s very pretty, quiet and upscale. However, the last couple times we’ve been there the service has not been terrific. Not sure if they’re understaffed or if the particular waiter we had last night was new, but extremely slow. The owner was dining in the restaurant at the table next to us with her family. When they were finished with dinner, she was actually clearing plates and taking drink orders. I still love this restaurant.
