After a two-year closure, Original Joe's, San Francisco’s quintessential Italian-American dining destination, revitalized iconic Daly City institution Joe’s of Westlake, and reintroduced it into the community as Original Joe’s Westlake. An anchor of Daly City from 1956 to 2014, Original Joe’s Westlake underwent an extensive two-year renovation, complete with a front-to-back interior remodel, including the kitchen and all dining spaces, and an exterior and landscaping overhaul. Following the Original Joe’s tradition, Westlake continues to prepare unpretentious, old-school Italian-American fare in an open kitchen for all to see. The menu is carefully crafted to reflect a past-meets-present hybrid of what Joe’s of Westlake used to be and what Original Joe’s Westlake is today.

Boasting Sputnik lighting, terrazzo flooring and redwood accents throughout, Original Joe’s Westlake elicits mid-century America in the likes of Palm Springs, Beverly Hills and Las Vegas. The newly reimagined Cascade Room features show-stopping pimento orange banquettes, and offers a variety of options for large gatherings—from private rehearsal dinners and memorial receptions, to smaller non-private family dinners, class reunions and birthday celebrations. With beautiful custom sliding doors, the Cascade Room can be divided in half, creating two fully private event spaces, accommodating up to 50 guests each.

    Service started off great, but the lack of attention to small details got worse. The waitress was very slow, unprofessional and left us without service for 20-30 minutes. We had to get other staff members to get our water replenished, new utensils and our finished dishes taken away. Some of the food orders were wrong and bland. Been to Joe’s of Westlake plenty of times and the quality of services has gone down! My family and I will look elsewhere for better service. Their prices doesn’t justify their lack of service and professionalism.

    Sorry to say, but the service was awful. We had a reservation at 2:30 pm, which was the only thing available, and the three of us checked in for our reservation at 2:25. We were told to wait. The women at the front check-in desk paid no attention to us and seated other parties. At 2:40 I went up again and she said, “Oh, is everyone in your party here?” Yes, we have all been here since 2:25! We ordered an iced tea and a bottle of wine. The server said he’d bring four glasses. “We are a party of three,” I said. He joked that the fourth glass was for him. He did not bring the iced tea. I asked for it again, and again, and finally asked the manager to bring it. We were not offered cheese for our pasta. The service was a fail and it was a $200+ lunch for three; the wine was $46 of that. Asked for matches; no longer available. Favorite old menu items “taken off for Covid,” never came back: sweetbreads & chicken livers. Think we need to find a place where the guests get to feel special. We miss the old Joe’s.

    What a great place ! We had a small family reunion over lunch today, the day before Thanksgiving. No one rushed us, the food was excellent, the atmosphere was seasonal and lovely. We all had a terrific time.

    We had a wonderful dinner — calamari and Caesar salad for the table. Shrimp scampi, chicken parmigiana with prosciutto and spicy vodka sauce, Cacio Pepe with prawns, and spicy rigatoni with prawns. Everyone enjoyed their meals immensely.
