Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Nobu San Diego offers a luxurious dining experience with "outstanding food" and "wonderful service." Signature dishes like the black cod miso and yellowtail jalapeño are highly praised. The chic ambiance is perfect for special occasions, though some find it "very loud." Perfect for those seeking "amazing sushi" in a lively setting.

We'd been excited to finally try Nobu and was a bit disappointed. We ordered cold appetizers, sushi, and hot appetizers. The Yellowtail Jalapeno was excellent, as was the Bluefin Tuna Wasabi Salsa. The Japanese Red Snapper Sashimi Dry Miso lacked flavor. I would skip even though it was a recommendation from one of our servers. We ordered a few nigri, including Salmon, Yellowtail , and Japanese Red Snapper. They were out of the Japanese Mackerel so we went with the Aji and of course Blue Fin Toro. This is where we were disappointed. The fish itself was good, but the quality for the sushi was not up to the standards we would expect from a place like Nobu. It looked like the fish had been butchered and not carefully sliced and presented. It was most noticeable in the Toro nigri and seemed like the chef was either inexperienced or in a hurry. The also served the sushi after the hot courses which was an interested choice. We chose the Yellowtail Collar and the Rock Shrimp Tempura with the spicy cream sauce. The collar was really good. The shrimp tempura was good, but forgettable. Morimoto does a version of this that is much better. Our bill came to about $450 for two people. It was not worth that price and we would chose to go somewhere else next time. The service was fine, but not better than any casual dining. We had two servers take our order and check on us and it seemed like they weren't aware of the other. That part was a bit strange. We were there for a birthday and they had called to ask the name of the person who was celebrating so they could put it on the desert plate. We ordered desert just for that reason and then they never put the name on the plate, just a generic "happy birthday." I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a high-end Japanese restaurant and high-level sushi experience. For the price there are many better options such as Morimoto.

I loved the experience! I took my beautiful girlfriend there for our anniversary/Valentines Day and they were kind enough to write a little message on our dessert as per request. The food came out surprisingly faster than most restaurants. We got our food within 10-15 minutes when I excepted about 20-35 minutes with the amount of people there. I loved the vibe and will definitely come back again 🙌🏼

The food and service were AMAZING! The environment was cramped and noisy… not a place for a romantic dinner.

The hostess greeted us immediately with a warning that there was another reservation two hours after our scheduled reservation. (When we left, at least four other open 4 top tables were available.)The servers were all friendly but inattentive. Two people in our party ordered tenderloin, and they were warned it would take 45 mins to get their steak. One received their steak at least 20 minutes before the other person received their steak. While I understand the varied delivery of food items, the whole place was unorganized and out of sync—disappointing way to spend over $500. The food was good.

I recently dined at Nobu and had an incredibly disappointing experience. From the moment I arrived, the service was subpar. The server was rude, rushed through our orders, and made no effort to provide the high-end experience I expected from a restaurant of this caliber. The entire meal felt uncomfortable, with little to no attention paid to our table. I honestly felt like we were an afterthought. This is not the level of service I would expect from a luxury establishment like Nobu. I am requesting a refund for the terrible experience I had. I will not be returning and I hope the management addresses these issues promptly.

Probably the best food we’ve ever had in a restaurant and my wife is a superb chef and we do eat at top end restaurants regularly.
