Our aim is to be the central hub of the community, The Axe and Compasses is a traditional British village pub dating back to 1628, serving a wide and varied selection of quality lagers, cask conditioned ales, fine wines, and premium spirits. A gem of a village pub serving pizzas, artisan burgers, pub classics with great pints and playgrounds. Set in the North Herts village of Weston. Acres of beer garden, kids play areas, families, muddy boots and dogs very welcome in our bar area. Our beautiful Pavilion restaurant is open for all day for reservations Mondays through to Sunday. Our normal pub garden benches will be available as usual on a walk-in basis for food from our outside kitchen!     New pub to village. Food is proper home+ comfort food. Having a great live singer on a Saturday makes a difference and tbh, decent pubs with decent food and people are a rarity nowadays

    Couldn’t have asked for more. Staff very attentive and great for food allergies and helping with pram/high chair for toddler. Food very very good, we all had different meals and all great. Excellent atmosphere. Not rushed off table. Great evening out!

    Ourselves and two other couples get together once a month for a meal at different restaurants and pubs. We chose the Sword in Hand as it has a good reputation for food, and isn’t far from where we live. The meal was exquisite, 4 of us having the “Christmas pie” and thoroughly enjoyed it. The other 2 had chicken schnitzel, and fish and chips, who also had no complaints. The service was impeccable, giving extra commendation to the younger staff who were very attentive, ensuring we were happy with the meals and drinks. I would definitely recommend a visit.

    The dining is nicely set out but in mid-December lunchtime was positively cold. The service was welcoming and friendly . The food was excellent if a little limited if you don't like pizza. The wait for the food was unacceptable at lunchtime with only I think five tables occupied.
