Midtown Oyster Bar is Newport #1 choice when it comes to the freshest seafood and the largest raw bar in town.

Our two story building offer 2 bar areas, the first floor tavern and the second floor Burgee Bar. Located right on Thames Street, there is no better place in town to watch the hustle and bustle of downtown Newport. Our tavern area has high top tables for a casual, bar atmosphere, where you can gather with friends to enjoy a great meal, or a few beverages. Three dining rooms and three outside decks allow for plenty of dining space as well as the availability for private parties.

Whether you are looking for casual snacks and cocktails with friends or a formal dining experience, Midtown Oyster Bar has everything you could possibly be looking for.

**In order to provide the best service possible we are limiting table seating to parties of 8 or less.
A credit card is required for reservations of 6 or more people. There will be a $50 charge for a "No Show/No Call" reservation.

We love midtown oyster bar and will continue to come here because of the incredible oysters. That being said, I specifically wanted to write this review after my dinner last night because of the incredibly rude behavior of one of the managers upstairs. As an industry professional for the last 15 years, it was jarring to be treated as though we were unwelcome in a very busy and loud restaurant at the end of the night after spending $500. My friends and I had an 830 reservation and we were seated upstairs in a loud room with two other very large parties. As the night went on the other parties left and we were finally able to enjoy some quiet where we could actually hear each other speak. We could hear live music and loud yelling and talking from downstairs so we were by no means the last table in the restaurant. we were sitting and chatting after paying the bill, and the manager came in from the other room (having zero interaction with us up until that point) and abruptly demands that we leave. She blamed us for our server Marta (who was great btw) being there “all day” and very rudely tells us that she needs to clear the dining room. No one had mentioned to us that we needed to go and to us we could hear a ton of other people in the restaurant downstairs so there was no indication that they were trying to close down. (And they weren’t) there was a full on party downstairs. I have worked in several Michelin restaurants, fine dining restaurants, and casual restaurants and I have never been confronted with somebody as inhospitable as the female manager wearing a green sweater in the upstairs dining room on the evening of December 6, 2024. What a horrible woman, she should not work in hospitality. It’s not her strong suit.

It was incredibly busy, and the servers were under pressure. Obviously the kitchen was too as there was a delay in between courses, but when it did arrive it was nice.

Our first time dining at MOB and we loved everything about it. Great ambiance, not too noisy and the food was fantastic. Our cocktails were great, oyster appetizers were amazing and our scallop and salmon entrees were mouth watering! Quite possibly the best piece of salmon that I've ever had. Our server, Madison, was very attentive and helpful when it came to suggestions. Can't wait to get back there!
