About the restaurant
Located on the outskirts of Toronto’s vibrant Yorkville neighbourhood, the MIMI story begins with memories of the past. Loud conversation over plates of steaming noodles. The rush of servers moving quickly about in starched white dress shirts and pressed black bow ties. Darkly lit nooks with deep shades of red. The clanking of cutlery as cocktails are shaken swiftly in the background. A fragrant scent of Sichuan peppercorns toasting in the wok. Moments of celebration and togetherness over both new and familiar food. MIMI Chinese offers a place of wonder that brings back a taste of the past.

Overall very good experience for a family of four (girls ages 10 and 8). The food was excellent although would have erred toward a little more savory and a little less sweet if I had my druthers. Was somewhat hard to manage the multiple places, cups, etc. seated at couch and chairs around coffee table, rather than a traditional table. Taken together I would absolutely recommend this but not the easiest seating arrangement if with young kids.

The value for what we had was outstanding - sashimi dishes were very fresh, very nice quality, and the rolls were delicious. The karaage was great as well. We ordered around 8:45pm and several dishes were sold out: all of the wagyu dishes, the spring rolls, and the hapa pockets; the sushi bites sold out after our first order, so when we asked for a second we weren’t able to get more. Sapporo on tap was great. Half of our party doesn’t drink and the mocktails were delicious. It was extremely loud inside - I think if you want a quieter meal, try to get an earlier seating, toward the back of the restaurant. Our server was lovely, but service was a bit slow at times. Over all, a good experience for a fun relaxed atmosphere.

We came for a birthday celebration. We had some caviar and champagne to start which was excellent with nice presentation. Everything was really sweet the whole way through and we enjoyed the experience thoroughly. Only note was when it came time to get our coats, the host was gone so I asked a woman in the office/coat room and she seemed a bit inconvenienced by my request to receive our coats back. Not quite hospitable. Everything else was excellent.

We finally tried Alo after hearing much great things. We sat at “The Bar at Alo” for a St-Valentines fixed menu. The Service was outstanding from all staff and the food / cocktails were indeed deserving of their Michelin Star. Ambiance and decor in the bar area was a bit dark for our taste. I found the prices to be a bit steep, but not outside the norm at this level. The wine pairing was interesting and will get two of their featured bottles. However, I wonder why they chose to feature a US bottle in their pairing at this particular time. Overall great experience, will likely try their main dining area in the near future.
