Many locals will tell you that Brasao Brazilian Steakhouse, located on Interstate 10 in the La Cantera neighborhood, is one of the best new restaurants in San Antonio! It’s the perfect spot for steak lovers and brings high style and obsessive service to the former home of Chinese restaurant Wangchao. The restaurant features a cozy atmosphere with crisp tablecloths and diim lighting and plate and plate of meats arrive at your table so you can select from the variety of cuts offered. Options include chunks of pork loin, Sirloins, slow-roasted beef rib and costeleta de cordeiro and more. They also offer tasty and satisfying sides, like fried sticks of polenta, well-seasoned rice, porky black beans and caramelized bananas! Located on the campus of the Culinary Institute of America in San Antonio, Savor is the new student-staffed restaurant at the Pearl. The interior is bright and airy with wood and brass furnishings in the 2,500 square-foot space that seats 62 people in the bar area, lounge, and dining room. The menu is a classroom laboratory for advanced CIA students and features modern American food offered in a three or four course price fix. Menu options include items like fingerling potato and soft egg salad, curried potato soup and steak tartare along with entrees like Berkshire pork schnitzel, honey-chile roasted chicken and grilled rib-eye steak. The beverage program includes a full bar with a roster of classic cocktails from martinis and old-fashioneds to negronis and Manhattans.

I had a wonderful dinner at Savor and selected the wine pairings. The service was excellent and course selections included some very interesting options that I had never seen before.

Aldo’s Ristorante recently moved from its location at the Medical Center and now lives in the Dominion Ridge shopping center in northwest San Antonio. The new space is a full remodel of the now-closed Italian restaurant Di Frabo and features a full bar, a tiled pizza oven, private dining spaces and an expanded wine list. They offer a warm and inviting dining experience, just like an old Italian country home. The menu has a variety of homemade dishes cooked to perfection, including housemade pizzas, Spaghetti, Salmon Pavarotti and Scallopine Piccata. They also have a fantastic wine and cocktail list.

Ida Claire, a restaurant chain known for Southern dishes and delicious weekend brunch, opened its first San Antonio location at the Alamo Quarry Market. The restaurant has a 6,800 square foot space previously home to El Machito. It has a mix of indoor table and bar seating as well as an outdoor patio space, a rose garden and two converted airstreams for use as a bar and for private dining. The menu has options like po’ boys, shrimp and grits, Nashville hot chicken, crawfish corn beignets and unique desserts with inspired flavors like tobacco and coffee. They cover all the bases from breakfast to late-night eats, cocktails, wine and beer.
