Open for over three decades, Le Cafe du Marche remains a family run, independent French restaurant. Tucked down a cobbled mews on the corner of historic Charterhouse Square and a stones throw from Smithfield Meat Market, we offer honest French food in a convivial and characterful setting. Crossing the threshold, guests feel they escape the hustle and bustle of the Square Mile and instead are transported to the south of France. We have live jazz in the evenings

Fantastic ambience with the piano and double bass serenading the diners and the food was fantastic too. Would definitely recommend it and will visit again.

I have been using this restaurant for over 30 years. It has rarely disappointed. The soup de poisson is outstanding as is the beef entrecôte for sharing. Service is as good as anywhere you will find and the ambience thoroughly French. Highly recommended.

A lovely evening celebrating an engagement. How do they manage to make the atmosphere so convincingly French?

An old time favourite of mine. Hadn't been for a while but it remains as ever a very good place for lunch. French fish soup went down well as did the glass of house red to accompany the duck confit.

Great service and fun waiter, good food and atmosphere. My only recommendation for improvement is that the table we were sat at by the entrance/door was directly under a very warm heater, countered by the freezing air every time someone came in the restaurant - would suggest that table is moved a little further back from the heater/door on days like we visited.

I’ve been coming to Cafe du Marche for 35 years and it’s always been magic - a perfect combination of ambience, service, authentic French cuisine and wine. Excellent value too.

Food totally amazing, possibly the best meal we have had here , where we’ve been visiting a long time. The veal kidney starter stunning followed by partridge - wow! Service immaculate and a really good vibe from happy customers.
