A celebration of Sherry, Wine, Tapas, & Friends. Influenced by the culture of sip-a-little-bit-of-this-and-eat-a-little-bit-of-that, Tapavino began in August 2012 as Australia’s first Sherry Bar in Sydney, in a little lane-way not unlike something you would find in the cobblestoned alleyways of Spain. Helped by the beautiful warm vibe that greets you as you step inside and take a seat among floor-to-ceiling wine bottles, Tapavino was named runner-up in Sydney Morning Herald's 'Best New Bar' Awards within 4-months of opening. 12-months later we were named 'Best Bar with Food'.

Food was good. Overall very noisy restaurant but that’s just us. Service was lovely. We felt things were a bit untidy, olives served with no way of picking them up, the fork just bounced them all over the place, the waitress kindly brought some toothpicks (wooden cocktail sticks), these were fine. Main course took a bit too long to arrive.

Early dinner for three. Food was delicious. Ordered 12 oysters. Received (and charged for) 6. No problem. The three entrees ordered were intelligently served to table one at a time. Brilliant. Followed too quickly by mains - all 7 plates attempted to be squished onto our table about an hour after being seated! Tall wait woman delivering food clearly annoyed when asked to leave 2 pastas and return other 4 plates to kitchen so we could actually enjoy hot food, and not be rushed out of our seats. Her attitude dampened an otherwise lovely evening

Considering the cost on its own to ascend the pylon and see the museum ($30+ per adult), $110pp (inc. booking fee) is good value for this experience. The 200+ stairs are easy, wide staircases with railings and as you stop along the way with a guide to learn about the bridge and stop for an aperitif, watch a short film and stop at the gift shop and bathrooms, it breaks the ascent up so you don’t really notice it. Unless you struggle with one flight of stairs normally, these stairs should not be an issue. I was dreading it and pictured myself arriving dripping in sweat and panting, but I wasn’t. We were blessed with a cracking bright, blue afternoon but even an overcast day would be spectacular up there. It was extremely windy, so tie hair back and forget about a hat or anything that a gust of wind could take off your head. The service of drinks and food was more generous than the booking suggested which was a lovely surprise. You spend about an hour out on the pylon open area soaking in the 360 degree views and the drinks and canapes are brought to you. As there were only 10 guests, there was no worry of being left out. Wait staff ensured everyone got the same access to food and drink no matter where they chose to be. Music played from a speaker and was fun and upbeat classic songs that people started singing and moving to. All staff from Bridgeclimb and Luke’s Table were attentive, friendly and efficient. As for the food itself, it was delicious. Mostly little, crisp, tartlet cases filled with yummy things. The wagyu beef and cherry tartare was our favourite, followed by the warm pea and goats cheese and the creamy strawberry vinaigrette oyster. The lobster prawn toast was also moreish. I imagine the dinner offering would be amazing, especially with sunset, but at 4 times the price, I think it makes the Tour and Tasting option excellent value. Think of it as a tasty tester to the dinner if you’re considering something special to celebrate and splurge on.
