Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001.     We enjoyed celebrating our 46 wedding anniversary. The crab cakes were the largest and nicest I’ve ever eaten. The trout had a little more breading than he liked. The sweet potato muffins were perfection. The Irish flute entertainment was very enjoyable. Dining by candlelight was very romantic. This is an historic building and is not handicapped friendly. The restroom is downstairs. Parking is in the back and where you enter the drive is not obvious and down the street—hard to see after dark. The menu is historic style and fun to read. We love to eat here on every visit to Colonial Williamsburg. I make reservations several months in advance.

    Our meal at the King's Arms Tavern was one of the absolute highlights of our visit to Williamsburg. The food was unbelievable, the service was lovely, and we enjoyed the live harpist who played for a bit. Cannot wait to return!
