In 1962, Johnny Harlowe made the jump from the silver screen to chef and owner of Dear John’s. Convinced by his pal Frank Sinatra, Johnny opened the iconic spot just a ways down from Sony Studios on Culver Blvd. It became the watering-hole for the Hollywood elite with Sinatra often in the corner playing the piano against the dark brick walls once lined with portraits of famous John’s.     Everything was so delicious. The octopus appetizer was so intricate and it was fun to taste and combine every element on the plate. The oysters were very good. I ordered the scallops and that was our favorite. My husband’s short ribs and filet were also amazing. The raspberry creme brulww? I can’t stop thinking about it. Gorgeous and it was so so good. Service was excellent, this will be our go-to date spot when we don’t feel like something new.

    We had the Valentines Day prix fixe six course dinner. It was awesome, and the options even worked for my vegetarian wife. The dishes are mostly traditional Mediterranean fare, but prepared with fresh high quality ingredients, and with subtle cooking skills. It’s hard to describe it beyond that. Service was excellent from the servers to the bussers.

    We have been looking forward to dining at Daer John’s for a long time and we were not disappoonted! The food and service were outstanding and we definitely will return. The only negative for me was the pervasive odor of the fuel used for the table candles; it made my nose run during our meal!
