Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001.     We always enjoy Le Yaca for special occasions! The only disappointment last night was the soup…supposed to be a tomato, apple, cumin but we start enjoying the soup and not tasting these flavors…it was asparagus, as they ran out of the tomato soup! Soup still delicious but as I told our server…What if someone was allergic to asparagus 😬! This won’t stop us from returning…great food & service 👍❤️😋

    Great option for Christmas eve! Enjoyed a matinee movie and then dinner in the restaurant. Food was great, atmosphere perfect with nice Christmas music and the staff dressed in their ugly sweaters!

    We had a lovely Birthday Dinner on the 21st. Our weight person was terrific and attentive. Sadly we were the one and only customers for a six thirty seating. I know that Merrior is always crowded in the summer, but people need to know it is quiet and extremely enjoyable in the winter as well. We sat on the porch and it was warm and cozy.
