We’re a casual and cozy restaurant serving up Asian small plates—from fun improvisations on that theme to faithful renditions of classic dishes that we love. We love the name “bonito” because it’s both the Spanish word for “beautiful” and the name of one of the most important fish in Japanese cuisine. Thus, it’s the perfect name for a restaurant that seeks to explore the shared traits in the cuisines of Vallarta and Vietnam, delving into our mutual love for funk, citrusy brightness, and carefully calibrated spice. This location is in Zona Romántica right next to the beautiful 200-year-old Banyan Tree. Comfortable air-conditioned dining room and a gorgeous outdoor garden provide the perfect setting for all occasions. Our most popular items are ramen, pho, pork belly bao, soft-shell crab bao, coconut shrimp rolls, summer rolls, green papaya salad, potstickers, lobster dumplings, pork belly dumplings, teriyaki salmon, Korean BBQ beef, and green curry.

I made this reservation for my cousin and his wife that were visiting PV. It is one of our favorite places when we are there, and wanted them to try it. I also purchased a gift card for them to use, and the staff there was great about presenting it to them when they arrived. They had a wonderful time and loved every bit of it! Thank you to the staff for making this work!

The atmosphere is dreamy for an intimate dinner for two but there is even a separate area for groups. We dined riverside and enjoyed the gently gurgling water under the wonderful piped in music. We will definitely be back for a live music evening. Attention to detail is second to none. Class is evident from the greeters all the way to the server’s helpers. The food was exquisite but I must say something about the quantity vs. quality. I’d much rather have a satisfying portion of something exquisite than a plate load of something I can’t finish. You are not buying in bulk here. It’s not Walmart size or Walmart priced. That said, you can have an appetizer after the amuse-Bouche, a slice of bread with butter aux fines herbes, a main dish, and still have room for dessert! I had the baby kale salad, the lamb, profiteroles, and an espresso and I walked away satisfied after an enjoyable meal that meandered for two hours. We were not rushed but every detail was catered to our liking. Among the best in town but don’t expect fast and cheap.

The view is worth coming up the hill to the restaurant. Try to book for sunset for a fabulous evening. I've been twice and find the food to be adequate but not phenomenal. Our fist time we had lasagna, which no one thought was great. It was fine. For our second visit, my catch of the day either was overcooked or not actually caught that day. It was very bland from my perspective. I wish they had served the whole fish instead of just a filets. My mom had the lobster which was very good and not overcooked. My husband had shrimp with linguine, which he liked. So for me, the food is fine, but come for the view! It you want to keep it cheap, just go the bar for drinks and you can still see the view.
