Koshō Restaurant at The Barlow is a modern Japanese and sushi restaurant in Sebastopol with a progressive focus on food, local ingredients, and sustainability.     The food is fantastic. The chef is amazing and it shows in all the dishes he and his staff create. We have eaten here quite a bit and the food never disappoints. Great wines too. The only problem this most recent visit was the service. Our server was lagging behind all evening. They were busy being valentines weekend, however he didn’t clear away app plates until the main course came out. Never checked in our refilled wine or water. He was probably having a bad night and I hope next time I am in the service will have improved. Other than that…. You won’t be disappointed.

    What an amazing experience! The food was fun, surprising and most of all delicious! The staff were kind, engaging and very thoughtful. We were celebrating our 1 year anniversary and they were very celebratory with us. Including complimentary champagne. A Gluten free menu was provided for us and all the items were perfection. The atmosphere was cozy, comfortable and welcoming. A new favorite for sure, and we will be back!

    If you are near Sebastopol, Goldfinch NEEDS to be on your list. I don't know where to begin on the food... - The pickled veggies were the right balance of acidic, herbaceous, slightly sweet, and crunchy - The Baby Gem lettuce, strawberry salad was beautiful, refreshing, an excellent amuse bouche. - The Roasted Carrots with honey mustard puree were tender, savory, slightly glazed, and an excellent counter to the baby gem salad. - The Hangar steak was lights-out--charred, beefy, and a fatty/richness, cut perfectly with bleu cheese and the red wine glaze. The Potato pave was something I will absolutely be trying to make at an upcoming steak dinner I'm hosting (think Potato gratin cooked slowly in butter, seasoned, cooled+ pressed in a pan, and then cut into squares and deep-fried for a super sexy crispy exterior with fluffy/creamy/buttery/salty potato interior) - The star of the show was ABSOLUTELY the Dungeness crab ravioli Rose... If that stays on the menu, it is a MUST ORDER. Since I was lucky enough to have my wife order that, I got to do the cheat code/perfect bite of the evening--a little hangar steak, ravioli, some of the crispy exterior of the potato pave, and a little red wine glaze. Absolutely divine--surf & turf of legend. We will now be making whatever excuse we can to get back to Goldfinch.

    The service, the food were superb! The only reason I gave fewer stars was about half of the indoor dining area has uncomfortable seating. Bankette seats were too high yet tabletops ridiculously low. The tables in the center had low chairs and high tabletops. The booths are great and the covered outdoor seating is high quality. Friendly and attentive wait staff and delicious food. This place is right around the corner from my house and I want this place to be successful for many years to come.
