Located on Charleston's Upper King Street, Indaco (Italian for "indigo") serves rustic Italian cuisine. The original Hot and Hot Fish Club was founded in the late 1700’s by the planters of All Saints Parish. The social club was dedicated to epicurean pursuits; gourmet food, strong drinks and festive times. The first club was said to be on Drunken Jack Island, located just a few miles south from here. Members of the original club described their past time spent on the island as the “happiest hours of their lives.” The Club was dismantled and finally laid to rest after the Civil War. An ever shifting sand bar off the coast of Huntington Beach State Park is all that remains of the original site. The Hot Fish Club today is located in the oldest existing restaurant building on the Grand Strand.     Excellent holiday fare at our first visit to The Independent! Our personable server, Hunter, was totally knowledgeable of cocktail and menu details. Our entrees were cooked to perfection and the crowning glory was the Hummingbird cake dessert. Truly, as good as it gets~ a venue not to be missed!

    Our server was wonderful! He knew all about the decor and had great facts! They were also very accommodating. The smaller room got really cold, since people were leaving, so I asked if we can move to the big room, which had more people and was warmer. They looked into it and was able to grant the request. I was sad that the raviolis were sold out. We both had the lamb burgers. They were amazing! Would recommend!

    Indaco is a pasta lover’s dream come true! From start to finish, our meal was nothing short of exceptional. We began with the Caesar salad, which might just be the best Caesar I’ve ever had. Instead of the usual croutons, they used delicate crumbles of heaven that elevated every bite. It was so good, we ordered a second one before our pasta even arrived! The pasta dishes were equally outstanding. The tortellini and the black pepper tagliatelle (their incredible take on carbonara) were both cooked to perfection, with flavors that were rich, balanced, and utterly delicious. Each bite showcased the care and skill that goes into their pasta-making. Although we didn’t try the pizzas, we saw them being served to other tables, and they looked absolutely beautiful—definitely something to try on a future visit. To finish, we indulged in the classic tiramisu, which was the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal. Indaco is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates expertly crafted Italian cuisine. If you’re in Charleston, don’t miss it!
