Dobson's Bar and Restaurant is a hidden treasure in the heart of Downtown San Diego/Gaslamp Quarter. For the last 40 years, this has been the hot spot for business lunches and frequented by many local and nationwide celebrities. Paul Dobson, the namesake for Dobson's bar and restaurant, is one of America's few professional Bullfighters. The food is California cuisine with a touch of Italian, French, Spanish and Asian cuisine. One thing that both local San Diegans and Zagat can agree on is that this is one of the top restaurants in San Diego. Due to the limited seating and popularity, reservations are highly recommended. Owner Paul Dobson "works a room better than Sinatra", which explains why this "local tradition" downtown remains, "after all these years", a "high-powered, hobnob spot"; the Cal kitchen "serves up delicious, innovative food, along with old standbys" ("have the mussel bisque and think of heaven").

I watch YouTube about this place so I knew what to expect. And it was pretty amazing. If you’d never done it before it’s great for special occasions. The food was really delicious but the downside is you have to cook it yourself. And if you don’t pay attention, you can wind up burning everything or over cooking everything. Of course, the best part was the chocolate fondue. Just awesome. What really made it for me was the kindness and consideration of the staff and how attentive and wonderful they were. Especially down in San Diego. I don’t know about other places, I’ve never been there before, but they were awesome! And the food was edible because I cooked it and because I paid attention. But my aunt and uncle were not so lucky and had overcooked steak. But that’s their fault. Not the restaurants. Thanks for listening.

Food was phenomenal!! We ordered the ribeye, short ribs, mac and cheese with bacon. Everything was super delicious and steak was cooked perfectly. When we first walked in, I thought the music was a bit loud but we ended up being seated in the outdoor/indoor room in the back and it was perfect. They have little heaters around and it was a nice touch. Plus the 9 O’clock shots with the DJ and the music blasting was a pleasant surprise! Will definitely want to come back!

This is one of our favorite spots in downtown San Diego. We always try to park and eat at the U.S. Grant before we take in a show at the Civic Theater. This was my first time enjoying the Grant Grill and it did not disappoint. I ordered light and had the soup (seafood chowder), caesar salad, and the pork appetizer. Every bite was delicious and went well with the 2 old fashions I had throughout the meal. My GF enjoyed her favorite, Hokkaido Scallops and they were very good. We alerted our server that we were attending the theater and he made sure we had our check in plenty of time to walk across the street and enjoy Back to the Future, the musical. BTW, the house bread and butter is AMAZING!
