Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May. Long before the farm-to-table trend invaded America, Louisa’s espoused this philosophy, and served food to match. The tiny-but-iconic eatery was established in 1980 and has been dishing out incredibly fresh and delicious food in the small historic yellow building ever since.     This is about the tenth time we’ve eaten here over the years. It has always been one of our favorites and must stops. This time was different. We were greeted by a hostess that had a plate of food at the hostess station. I have never seen that in my life and do not want to see it at a fine dining restaurant. I remember a time when you were served a small charcuterie board but not anymore. I get it but miss it. The Caesar salad was ok but had a sprinkle of cheese on top. Not near enough to give it the taste. My branzino special was large but was a bit bland. My husband liked his salmon but the piece was really small. Not like he remembered. We were thankful for the bowl of Parmesan left at our table and the mousse dessert was perfect; light and not too sweet. I will go again but it was just a little off this time.

    Always a five star experience at the Washington Inn. Our server Roxy was amazing. We've had her before. She's so sweet and attentive. Everything we ate was cooked perfectly and delicious. It is one of our Go to favorite places.
