- OTOpenTable DinerPortland / Oregon •1 review5.0Dined todayI am a hypercritical person; that is my nature. When something is good, I say so, And when reviewing restaurants, I have no qualms about ratings from 0-5 stars. Decant is, without hesitation, the best culinary experience in Medford, Phoenix, Talent, and Ashland. I have lived in the Rogue Valley for over 20 years. For those who know this area, I believe most would agree with me that the following restaurants were well beyond average: Château Lin, The Loft, Winchester Inn (brunch or breakfast), and Peerless. The first two restaurants no longer exist, and the Winchester Inn, I have heard, no longer serves food unless you are staying at their B&B. I have not been back to Peerless in many years. Decant is outstanding. We were there 3/13/25 for a birthday celebration. We all shared what we ordered for appetizers and entrees. Everything was outstanding: scallops, roasted pork belly, cod, filet mignon and lamb. Service was impeccable and our server Austin was charismatic and attentive. I have given Decant 5 stars; this is a first for me for Oregon. With the above said, I do have some constructive points. #1. I do not understand why restaurants in the U.S. have piped in music. I go to a restaurant for the food and the social interaction. The music played is often of poor quality because the acoustics are poor, plus the speakers used are not top of the line. So Decant, turn off the "music" and let conversation not be challenged with the extraneous sound. Admittedly, as a Vietnam veteran, I have a hearing impairment but the technology in hearing aids (my 4th pair) do not allow many of us to distinguish voices at a dinner table from extraneous sound. Get rid of the music and consider a consultation about noise control in your establishment. #2. My other criticism is that Decant is extremely pricey. I am well-to-do but having dined around the world, Decant is overboard in their prices. I will go back to Decant but not often due to this.More infoDecantPrice: Expensive• Contemporary American• Medford•4.9
